Hi,

I really like google keep, synch with the google account, notifications etc, easy to use but I try now to degoogled my phone, so I wondered what would be a good alternative?
thanks

That heavily depends. Do you want sync, or will an offline solution suffice?

Let us know what features you'd like, so that we can propose alternatives.

I have a couple of options to recommend:

    1. Quillpad - https://github.com/quillpad/quillpad

This one can do syncing via Nextcloud if I'm not mistaken, but can also be used offline. They eventually plan to expand syncing to any service you want via the file manager.

    1. Notally - https://github.com/OmGodse/Notally

Very minimal and offline app for quick notes.

wojon Many apps don't have issues enabled. Open source developers often get flagged with issues that make no sense/are out of scope etc. no matter how many times they explain. People don't look for duplicates, documentation etc.

I did see there's an open pull request for the other issue that you're mentioning, though, so that's perhaps something that will be fixed eventually.

I tested out Notally for a few weeks when I first started using GoS (August 2022) and found that it most definitely deleted notes. This happened multiple times.

I used Joplin for a good year or so, The desktop app is amazing but the Android app is quite limited in comparison. I ended up jumping over to Obsidian and using Syncthing to sync my notes to my desktop. Really happy with this setup.

          4 months later

From a first glance I like Quillpad. Resembles Google Keep nicely. Is there a way to migrate Google Keep notes to Quillpad?

I really enjoy using Standard Notes. It's simple, reliable and works well.

Notesnook is now also open source. You can use it offline or sync (e2e) using their server. Selfhosting the server should be possible in the following months I think

I'll throw another recommendation in for Standard Notes. I came from IOS and this has completely replaced my notes. It's free but I use the paid version so I can also use it as my software 2FA. I can't recommend it enough.

I use Nextcloud Notes. It syncs with a Nextcloud server, which is a great way to replace all the online gCrap, if you or someone you trust is up to the task of hosting a Nextcloud instance.

Would recommend Cryptee. A different take and a great web app

A few weeks ago I went through the process of looking into every foss note taking app I could.

Problem with Standard notes (the free version) is that its extremely basic and kind of useless. It doesn't have richtext editing, check lists, or even Markdown. Its only a plain text editor. Paid plan is way expensive.

I tried Joplin. It felt kind of over complicated and its essentially just Markdown. Well, so is Quillpad, but Quillpad is just so much cleaner to look at. The Markdown in Joplin however might be more complete and you can do added plugins for extra Markdown features (not sure about the android app though). I didn't try Obsidian but its very similar to Joplin.

So I'd say If you want a more complex and sophisticated option with more features go for Joplin or Obsidian. If you want a simpler option go for Quillpad or Notally. Quillpad is the middle ground between Joplin/Obsidian and Notally.

Notally is very basic rich text format. Notally has no undo/redo buttons.

wojon Please note that Notally seems to have a bug that can, as far as I understand it, lead to the loss of your notes in certain cases. Also, I wonder why the github repo doesn't have the option to submit issues. Seems strange.

spiral I tested out Notally for a few weeks when I first started using GoS (August 2022) and found that it most definitely deleted notes. This happened multiple times.

Notally had this problem where you could accidentally swipe on your list items and they would get deleted with no way to undo. This has been fixed. It now also has a recycle bin so files you delete can be brought back. Is this what you are talking about?
