I've been enjoying GrapheneOS (with Sandboxed Google Play Services) on my Pixel 7a for the about 6 months now however just in the last couple days my push notifications have either stopped or been significantly delayed. This includes email, outlook, microsoft teams, mysudo, and signal notifications. The mysudo in particular means I've not been receiving calls until I open the app and see I've missed them. This is troublesome and I've been back and forth with mysudo on fixes but the problem is broader than that. Has anyone else experienced this recently and any suggested solutions? I will need to go back to my ios device or revert the pixel 7a to the standard android distribution which feels unfortunate.

@unrelated789 Does Play services have the battery usage exemption? Check Settings > Apps > Sandboxed Google Play > Play services app info > App battery usage > Allow background usage. It should be set to "Unrestricted".

Check "Settings > Apps > Sandboxed Google Play > Play services app info > Mobile data > Background data" toggle. Is it on? Is Data Saver enabled?

Thanks everyone. Play Services version is 24.41.34. Battery usage was previously set to "allow" (I don't see a setting to say specifically "unrestricted" but would interpret this as unrestricted). Mobile data had "Background data" enabled, however did not have "Unrestricted mobile data usage" allowed so I changed that and rebooted the phone. Unfortunately I am still in the same situation. My old iphone 8 will still ring with the MySudo app (on wifi) but unfortunately the sim card from my Pixel 7a does not fit in the iphone 8 sim card tray. Guess I'm stuck trying to figure it out or reverting the Pixel to a stock Android distribution (not my preferred solution).

You need to tap on the text that says "Allow background usage". It will take you to another screen, where you need to select " Unrestricted "

@SovereignCopper Stop with the inaccurate claims about GrapheneOS. Completely unhelpful and as you can see this was a configuration issue which was easily resolved...

Probably9857 The sandboxed Google Play compatibility layer prompts for unrestricted background access with a dialog and it has a warning about it in Settings > Apps > Sandboxed Google Play if it's not allowed. It could more aggressively prompt about it than it already does but we didn't want to be too pushy to people who genuinely don't want to enable it.

@brad There should be 1 issue per thread rather than 3. We would prefer if people talk about the issues in dedicated threads rather than one about 3 entirely unrelated things. It's too much of a mess.

My Google Play Services is set to Unrestricted and has always been set to unrestricted yet I am still getting delays in notifications for a few of my apps seemingly randomly. Notably Signal and Teams.

Whatnoww Does it happen when you use mobile data? Is Data Saver enabled? Does Play services have permission to use mobile data in the background?

muhomorr Yes unrestricted usage. It's set to unrestricted. I've never ever set any battery saving measures. I've also checked just in case to ensure they haven't been enabled. I'm still getting ocasional delays on full signal. Signal messages arriving multiple minutes late at random.
