jufstp i am referring to the app. every other 3rd party app seems hacky or limited etc.
Using RCS with Google Messages on GrapheneOS
Carlos-Anso I've already checked all that. Looking at the Google help community, it looks like several non-GOS users have the same issue. For now, I'm just going to forget about it. Hopefully this gets fixed in the future.
Carlos-Anso Hello, I just reinstalled Android stock to test if RCS works, and well they activated immediately. I don't know if it's a problem with grapheneos but it's something to look into.
I wonder if it could be the cellular provider causing the issue. I've installed the three google apps and the messages app and RCS is active after a minute or two. Turn RCS off, turn it back on and it is active again within a minute or two. I delete all the apps from GOS, restart phone then reinstall and start over - RCS activates.
I did a factory reset on my GOS Pixel 7A and then proceeded to start from scratch and again RCS activated within minutes.
The three Google apps from GOS apps app, messages and minimal permissions and RCS works.
It's the weirdest thing reading all the issues with other GOS users
billinmtl Which apps (Google) did you install? Are any of those apps beta versions? What permissions do they have? Was it activated on Wi-Fi or cellular data? Did you have to add your number to the app to verify, or did it show up without the need to? Did you navigate away from the verification screen before it was complete? Are you on any VPN (on device or otherwise)? Any DNS settings applied (on the device or otherwise)?

I installed the Google Play services from the apps app -none are beta releases. (Google Play services, framework, and Play store). I then installed the Google messages app.
These were the permissions recommended on this thread, and are the only ones I allowed
Activation of RCS worked immediately for me as per the settings detailed
GSF: Network
Play Store: Network
Messages: Phone, SMS, Network
Initially, I get what looks like a sim card and my phone number with a message saying RCS is not available. I exit that screen to complete my other settings within the app and then go back to the RCS screen and it shows activated. Guess it takes my cell network a few minutes to confirm and authorize.
Edit, set up was completed with my VPN on
I have followed this process being signed in to play store with messages downloaded from there as well as not signed in with messages downloaded fromAuroraStore - same results.
billinmtl Thank you for your feedback. What about the Play Services permissions? Under Messages settings — Advanced, is your Phone number “Unknown” or set to some value? Is your cell number also registered as a 2FA with Google?

Under advanced settings my phone number appears. I did have RCS activated on stock prior to installing GOS but not sure it was registered as a 2FA, will need to look into that
Edit - my phone number is not registered 2FA with Google
I'm not sure if this will work for anyone else. I turned on SMS in GPS already had Network only". Messages has Network, Notifications, Phone and SMS. I went into Messages Settings and turned on RCS. It still said too many attempts try tomorrow from trying the last few days. After turning on RCS and waiting an hour I said "hell with this". I went into GPS settings and turned off the SMS permission and went back to Messages as I planed to turn off RCS and to my surprise it activated. It's been on solid ever since. Try turning RCS in Messages settings then, untick SMS in GPS then check it.

Hello, I've just realized that after 1 year of use, the RCS is still in configuration...

My RCS stopped working over a month ago. Things I have tried:
Deregistering my number from RCS via https://messages.google.com/disable-chat. Can't receive the SMS code for some odd reason, so it did not work. I do not have google blocked a sender.
Airplane mode trick
Resetting carrier services and messages
Sideloading an older version of messages
Waiting almost two weeks before trying to turn on RCS again
Setting up auto-verify again. I turned off auto verify and tried to turn it back on. For one of my accounts (which I use as my main Android account), the browser (Brave) does not detect my advice, so I cannot flip the toggle. On the other account, my device is detected, but auto verification has been pending for well over two weeks now.
Forcing RCS reconfiguration in debug settings
Calling my carrier and having them do some mysterious things on their end
Calling Google. They had me go through a lot of the above again, as well as resetting mobile network, bluetooth, and wifi settings. In the end, they told me to factory reset, which I doubt will solve the issue as it has not solved it for other people that have tried. It's also a huge inconvenience for me, so I'm not willing to do it unless it is guaranteed to solve my issue, which past forum posts on Reddit and Google support indicate that it is not.
RCS was working fine a month ago. Any advice on what I can do? I am on a Pixel 6 Pro.

For my part, I'm going to ask for a religious ceremony as well as an exorcism and a voodoo ceremony. I think it will work.🤣

I'm also having the same issue of RCS stuck on verifying with Verizon. Tried throwing all the permissions at GPS/messages/carrier services and letting it bypass my VPN to no avail. Unregistered my phone number with Google and switched to the stock SMS app. Will try again in two weeks...

If anyone tried turning off auto-verification for their phone number in their google account and can't turn it on again, download the Google app and go through there. You can flip the toggle. However, I am still stuck on "Auto-verification is pending for this device"

Y'all, I have figured it out! Follow the steps given by this God of a Redditor: https://www.reddit.com/r/UniversalProfile/comments/i3o0yi/comment/g0e61j4/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
If you are on Verizon, use this for the ACS URL: http://acs-vzw.jibe.google.com
I have carrier services installed, but I don't know that it's doing anything because I don't have a cache or storage to clear for it.
Syberkonda Thanks, it worked! I didn't even have to go through all the steps; I only needed to install the old Messages beta and it activated immediately.
