  • Kira902 In addition to nation state threat actors, there are companies, mainly vendors of falsely secure smartphones, who feel threatened by GOS to offer a much better quality free product that anyone can use.

  • Kira902 Because if you saw something as a threat, you might want to attack it, too. It's easy to see why state actors would want to behave this way toward GOS.

  • [unknown] I never even imagined people would bother to do that... especially here, GOS is amazing! The world seems so broken now...

  • Thank you!
This is an excellent model for other communities to follow.
    Much respect for this position.

  • Posting AI generated content in our community is only permitted for people who are using an automated translation tool to work around not being fluent in English. Use of a translation tool must be marked in either your user bio or the first post in a thread where you're using it. Use a dedicated translation tool, not a generic text generator like ChatGPT.

AI generated text is still usually very easy for us to spot. Both spammers and malicious trolls are making more and more use of these tools to attack the project. We cannot distinguish people who do not believe they're causing any harm by using these tools from people using them maliciously. Posting walls of verbose text written in the tone of an expert by an AI with no actual understanding involved is harmful to our community. It wastes the time of moderators, developers and community members along with misleading people. People shouldn't have to waste their time responding to machine generated nonsense which comes across as a very serious but very misguided post.

Suspensions for violating this rule will be permanent if the content wasn't marked as AI generated. These AI text generation tools are essentially optimized for generating plausible sounding misinformation and their use will be treated as malicious deception. Multiple accounts have been suspended for clearly using these tools without saying so. Please stop doing this. People invest a lot of time helping others in this community and do not want to waste their time responding to machine generated nonsense.

  • GhostLead No news on that. The team is looking into the implementation to decide if it is something they feel comfortable shipping. If there are news prior to the release, I will let you all know.

    • UPDATE 3:

As per the announcement by the project, the next Pixel 8 and 8 Pro releases will no longer be marked as experimental. Furthermore, GrapheneOS will be enabling DisplayPort support for them:

      UPDATE 2:

New experimental release now available which should fix the fingerprint scanner not working - we have already received feedback that it fixes the issue, but testers are much appreciated overall. If you want to get that release and help out with testing, please join the https://app.element.io/#/room/#testing:grapheneos.org to find instructions on how to obtain it and to provide feedback on the release.

      UPDATE:

Experimental releases for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are now available. Fingerprint unlock support isn't working yet and other features may be missing. It likely won't be necessary to reinstall to move to future production releases.

If you want to get the releases and help with testing, please come to https://app.element.io/#/room/#testing:grapheneos.org to find instructions and related information.

If you do and notice any bugs, please report them in that room, so that we can have a centralized place for this, instead of separate reports spanning multiple channels.

Hi everyone. We are aware that a lot of people have purchased 8th gen Pixel devices in anticipation of GrapheneOS supporting them so that they can flash it to their devices.

The team is currently in the process of porting to those devices while ironing out the final regressions that came with Android 14.

Progress has already been made with the port, and a build of it exists, albeit still with major release-blocking issues such as no sound, so it is not something that the team can release for public testing yet.

Once there are further announcements to be made, they will be.

Please refrain from creating new threads asking for when these devices will be supported. In the interest of keeping the forum as neat as possible, we may have to start removing threads asking about this and directing them to this post.

We will try to post updates here as they're made available so that everyone in the community is well informed.

GrapheneOS will be receiving funds from Proton in order to help fund our team and work on upcoming features to the project. One of these features will be contact scopes, where you will be able to selectively choose which contacts you expose to an app, much like how you can selectively choose which files you expose to app with our storage scopes feature. We also plan to have many user onboarding experience improvements, as we want to make GrapheneOS even more user friendly! As part of doing so we will be writing a new SetupWizard application, which provides the onboarding screens you see when you first power on a GrapheneOS installation or create a new profile.

This was only possible because of our community, and on behalf of the team, thank you!
