BUG: Fingerprint unlock disabled after profile change
- Edited
This has been reported by a number of users, on this forum, on Matrix, and on GitHub. It's an upstream issue that has become more prevalent since Android 13 QPR3. QPR3 was included in the recent GrapheneOS updates a week ago. Another user has gone to the trouble of opening an issue on GitHub, but it's something we'll need to wait for Google to fix, most likely.
How can we follow the evolution of this bug since it's an upstream?
Example if its being worked or not.

JayJay It's an extensively reported issue in the upstream issue tracker: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues?q=fingerprint%20not%20working

Sad to see an upstream issue wreak this much havoc upon usability. Fingerprint unlock just needs to work for a daily driver and it may be months before we see a fix?
I think it's time I look at switching to iOS. Privacy and reliability can be found there.
Kryptos iOS doesn't have user profiles and it can be avoided by not using that feature.

What has helped me is that I have two fingerprint images left hand and right hand when I log into a second profile only the left hand works so you could probably try setting another finger print so you would have two images. that's what work for me

Techsaw The issue is that the fingerprint button prompt does not even show up.
Are we really sure this is not an issue with GrapheneOS "End session" functionality? I have managed to get it to work again after using the "end session" button. If I recall correctly, the "end session" button showed up even after I ended the session on the only extra profilr. I tap the button and the fingerprint prompt came back again without reboot. This is quite inconsistent though, it doesn't work every time.
A work around for this is to open any other app within the Owner Profile that uses a biometric fingerprint.
For whatever reason this triggers the OS to work properly again for me anyway.
I have a banking app I use or even my Gallery App's Fingerprint Protected folder does the trick. This workaround has been repeatable since the issue began some time ago.
Give it a try, see if it's repeatable and report back.

Another workaround I've found is to go into the Fingerprint Unlock settings under Security. As soon as I enter my PIN, the functionality returns.
Any update on this? Maybe Android 14 is going to fix it?
As of now (9 October 23) I'm still seeing this bug virtually everytime I switch profiles.

Skyway Factory resetting? Pretty tall task for OS without a good backup solution. It would be great if either mods or developers chimed in on whether this this will resolve the issue for good.
