Just read the twitter post about the GrapheneOs Foundation non-profit organization in Canada. I am not on twitter but wanted to congratulate the team - so chose here.

If this is not the place, just let me know and I will remove this post

Congrats !!

It unfortunately does not protect anything from the very hostile anti-freedom canadian federal government.

Please read the linked content. We explained the purpose of the foundation. It exists to raise funds, provide funding to developers and to shield developers from attacks through the legal system including by governments. You seem to be missing that having the non-profit helps to defend the project. It's harder to go after the developers.

Comments getting into an off topic debate about politics and engaging in concern trolling have been removed.

Very nice! Are there plans to create a similar entity in the US so that it may qualify under section 170(c) of the US Internal Revenue Code to allow for charitable contribution deductions?

tmp No, but we'll be able to accept donations via Open Sats.

Our Canadian non-profit won't be applying to be a registered charity since it would greatly increase the costs and would greatly restrict what it can do. Canada has much stricter rules for charities than the US. Our lawyers recommended that if we do want a registered charity in Canada, we should make it as a separate organization which funds work by the main non-profit.
