Hmm, did you press it quickly enough??? Like click click? I just tried and it works for me on pixel 6 pro... You need to enable camera access on lock screen first of cause

I found this :

This is a known bug in AOSP if you have multiple camera apps installed. It can be fixed by resetting app link associations for your camera apps and setting it up again. It has to be done a very specific way to make it work for the lockscreen. It's a bug that was introduced with Android 12 and isn't tied to our Camera app or to GrapheneOS specifically.

But how to do that?

Thank you very much for finding this info. I am having the same problem you originally posted, and I think it may be because I have Open Camera installed along with Camera app. Did you ever find a solution that would allow you to open the camera from the lock screen and take photos with the camera locked?

MetropleX I feel stupid, but I cannot figure out what you mean by this post. Since a moderator changed this thread to "solved", I guess you are giving the solution, but I can't figure it out.

I have Camera and also Open Camera, and I am having the OP's problem--I can't take photos from the lock screen despite enabling camera access on lock screen.

Also, I note that I have three camera "tiles"--Camera, Record Video, and Selfie--but they are all tied to Open Camera. I have a suspicion that if I had a camera tile tied to the Camera app, maybe I could access the lock screen?

Anyway, I cannot figure out how to "reset the defaults set for them". When I go to Settings-->Apps-->All Apps-->Open Camera, I don't see anything offering to "reset" for them, and I don't see any settings I can change related to security/permissions.

Could you give more details? Or do I just need to uninstall Open Camera?

Cigurd What you need to do is go into Settings > Apps > All apps > [your camera app] > Open by default > Clear default preferences. You may need to do this for all the camera apps you have installed.

Next time you try to launch the camera by double tapping power you should get a prompt asking you what app you want to do that with. If the device is locked you will need to unlock it to see the prompt, but after that first time of setting it up it should just work afterwards.

          This just happened to me.
          I didn't install a 3rd party camera. Reboot didn't help.

Fresh user profile, no apps installed, double click of power button while unlocked works perfectly fine. On lockscreen, double click does nothing. 5 rapid clicks does trigger the SOS routine.

Not sure what happened. The above solution and the closed github issue doesn't help. If anyone has any ideas?

Fixed it for me by disabling one of the camera apps temporaily in it's app info.
After that the leftover app will claim the default camera setting and everything is alright.

What phone model is everyone on? I have Pixel 7 and I encounter this issue maybe 4 out of 5 times when I try to launch Camera from lock screen. I've tried all the fixes described and they only work temporarily before it gets buggy again :/

If camera access is turned off in the quick tile, you will have to unlock your phone to enable camera access when you double click power button from the lock screen. There is no way round that.

If your camera access is turned on in the quick tile, you can access the camera from the lock screen without unlocking your phone by double clicking power button.

In summary, you need to unlock your phone to enable camera access tile and not to access the camera from lock screen. Hope that clarifies things.

            a year later

I had to perform the following Steps to get OpenCamera on lockscreen:

Enable "Settings -> Security -> Allow camera access when device is locked".
Enable "Settings -> System -> Gestures -> Quickly open camera"

            To select another camera app:
"Settings -> Apps -> Camera -> Open by default -> Clear default preferences"
"Settings -> Apps -> OpenCamera -> Open by default -> Clear default preferences"
Lock device, try camera shortcut, unlock and select your camera app, select "always".

In OpenCamera I had to enable "Settings -> More camera controls -> Show camera when locked".
Go back from settings to OpenCamera main screen.

Try it, works. Maybe this is helpful.
