  • If you haven't switched from the AOSP Gallery app, I highly suggest doing so

I would be curious to see an example of what could break. I disabled the bundled Gallery app from day 1 (replaced with Fossify) and have never encountered any errors. (Not saying it can't happen.)

    So do I.

I mentioned one example already. Its possible for an app to send a VIEW intent for an image which is to be fetched via http or https. Bundled Gallery app will handle this. Fossify Gallery will not.

Another example is Aves gallery not handling any EDIT intents.

Aves will however send an EDIT intent if you try to edit an image. The bundled Gallery app is able to handle that intent.

I feel the Markup app available from the GrapheneOS App Store should really be used regardless if you have the stock Gallery or not

Don' t know if this really breaks things. But good to know.

pml the app is proprietary and very basic. Fossify Gallery, Image Toolbox and "New Gallery" all have the same functionality afaik.

Maybe in a Tablet it works better than the others

missing-root fair criticism. I was just putting it out there as an option

It may not really matter but also could be a problem if an app is trying to show you an image that you need to see for some reason and you cant see it and depending on the context maybe dont even know it was trying to show you something.

That's right. I personally would take the risk but on the other hand I'm fine with this stock gallery. I need no fancy stuff.

treenutz68 Yes, I've been using the Gallery app on F-droid that was recommended by another user on here in another thread.

yellow-leaves Yeah I should have been backing them up more often. I do backups from my phone far more often now, especially since I found out my Linux laptop doesn't experience weird random MTP USB file transfer issues unlike every PC and laptop with Windows I've tried using MTP USB file transfer on.

              No need to switch anymore:
              https://grapheneos.org/releases#2024120400

'Gallery: remove the Delete option for items that represent multiple images since the UI is badly designed and makes it too easy to accidentally delete images, ...'

Btw the old AOSP gallerie's "share" feature does not open the normal Android share popup. This makes it useless when sharing between private space, work profile and owner

Thank you for degrading of software that has ever worked well. Instead of backup data or look before clicking. We simply remove a very common basic function.

                2025 can come.

AccJustForThat simple answer to your prickly comments is disable it, don't use it. Obtain another gallery app and complain later, or rather don't. There are other more pressing issues to address like memory tagging errors in ProtonVPN.

Its just annoying. Sure everyone can install another software to dodge problems.

But the fact that the Gallery app works perfect fine, some users complain and instant a feature get hilarious complicated.
Why not suggest to these users in first place, to switch the Gallery app because there is no time to repair old apps?

Now I need to change a running system because it got disabled.

But yeah now it is what it is. :/
I would call it bad development decision.
