I don't really get the problem with the removal of the function.
Okay, sure, it's annoying to get used to a different workflow, but sooner or later it'd have to be changed anyway.
It's clearly bad design to have a "two click" deletion for an entire folder, with possibly thousands of pictures, in a gallery app without a trash folder.
Of the options to either fix up that old app or quickly remove that feature, the latter seems reasonable within context - limited development resources, the end goal being replacing the apps iirc, and there seemingly being some serious bugs (thread opener talks about the app showing false information).
It's still easily possible to delete an entire albums content:
- Open album
- Select one image/video in it
- Select the option "Select all" in the drop-down menu (the "1 selected" button)
- Press the garbage bin icon
- Confirm
That's just two extra steps (1 and 3) and way safer. For someone who does that frequently - therefore needing a quick way - that usually shouldn't be too complex to quickly do, taking into consideration how close the areas to tap are.
I'd still recommend everyone to just user another app, pretty much everything is better than the AOSP one.
Aves is great. Fossify Gallery is more akin to the AOSP Gallery, and iirc. supports deleting albums as quickly as the pre patch AOSP one. Although I'm not confident about the quality of the latter.
You can also enable/disable a trash folder in both of those.
