I can't confirm GmsCompat is installed as I don't see it anywhere.

Tap the 3 dots in the top right of the "All apps" screen and press Show system. Then GmsCompat will display.

squart fyi I edited your comment so the link would work.

Looks like you're looking for GmsCompat in another place! Can you check here: Settings > Apps > All apps > 3 dots in the upper right-hand corner > show system > GmsCompat. Make sure that app is enabled.

@squart Your phone is missing 6 months of GrapheneOS updates. It's likely the source of the issue. Please try this: Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps > tap the three dots upper-right corner > Show system > Find and tap on System Updater: enable it if it is disabled. Then select Storage & cache > tap on Clear cache, tap on Clear Storage.

Then go to Settings > System > System Updater and do a manual check for updates.

(If you had changed any settings in the System Updater they will have been reset now so you'll have to change them back).

DISCOVERY: I had network permission disabled for System Updater, so even though I have been manually checking for updates, nothing would happen. For months. LOL.

Downloading an update now and will report back.

squart I had network permission disabled for System Updater,

Obligatory disclaimer: Do not remove/touch the permissions of system apps in any way. On top of potential issues caused, there's simply no reason to do so.

              Dumdum

I believe my intent way back then was to prevent auto updates and force having to manual updates. But of course disabling network disabled both of those. There is now feedback/notification when the manual update check fails or doesn't happen at all.

              GOOD NEWS
