Apple makes people happy to use it. It gives them a set of apps which do everything they want to do on their phone (I'm talking about normal people). They have a set of apps, and as long as when a normal person turns on their device and can use these apps (and the apps look nice), they don't complain.
Why can't grapheneOS do something like this? I don't mean to suggest derailing their current push to a customizeable secure device. That's why we all love Graphene. But we can't have security unless non-us type people also use secure phones, and GrapheneOS is waaaay too much work for them, and then they can't have their phone be pretty and just already have the apps they want to do their 10 or 12 simple tasks. (This is similar to my other post but I'm getting to the point now.)
If grapheneOS could offer an install like iOS, where we just click download and it installs an OS that already has:
-a photo editing app
-a music/video listening app
-a notetaking app
-a maps app
-a messenger app
-a video clip making app
-an organizer/calendar
ETC, I don't know what normal people use exactly or what iOSs apps are.
And if these all looked good, it would be so easy to buy someone in my family a Pixel, install this OS, and they would use it. What holds this back now is (1) they don't like how GrapheneOS looks on the screen or its basic apps (I don't see anything wrong with these because like most Graphene users I'm more into functionality), (2)they can't always do all the things they want to do because they're in the habit from their Android phone, and (3) it takes me a very long time to set up each phone for them, because I have to install graphene, then install the basic apps for Owner, then create Users (usually like 4 users. A safe apps user, an insecure apps user for Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, etc), a banking user, and a trying out garbage user (for if they want to try some new really insecure app or visit some untrusted website). On each of these I have to go in and install the apps all individually. It takes several hours for each phone. There must be a way that this work can be automated in the setup.
But the real idea is that if you just create a grapheneOS that has all the kinds of apps iOS has, people would probably love it the same way they love iOS, which they just pick up and use for all their things.
