just bought a verizon locked pixel 6a just to find out its going to waste cuz u cant install graphene with carrier locked phone :)

is there anything i can do to prevent this purchase from going to waste? maybe calling verizon or putting in a verizon sim card etc idk

any help is appreciated, im very frustrated rn

Unfortunately, with a Verizon device there's no way to enable OEM unlocking. Did you check the returns policy of the supplier? If you want to run GrapheneOS, you would need to buy a different Pixel phone.

treequell just bought it on amazon, paid for same day shipping too :(
guess ill send it back , although in my 20 years of living , ive never once sent anything back , always just took the L

im pretty pissed about this though

sinoboss whatever they mentioned, it was carrier, not OEM unlocking. Return while you can.

sinoboss Could a random first-line Verizon Wireless person (or chatbot?) be right while the wisdom of discuss.GrapheneOS.org is wrong? Honestly probably not.

If your question was "How do I get the 'OEM unlock' toggle enabled so I can unlock the bootloader and replace Android with another operating system?" then maybe the answer you got was to the right question. But if the question was "How can I unlock the phone?" then I'm afraid what you were told is the answer to the wrong question.

de0u explain to me how the cause of OEM unlocking is because of the carrier locked phone... so i carrier unlock the phone it doesnt do shit?

Your next move is up to you, but Verizon Wireless is quite adamant about not unlocking bootloaders. Please feel free to consult other online forums if you wish, but you will likely want to be very clear about what you are hoping for, i.e., use the terms "OEM unlock", "unlock bootloader", and "flash different operating system".

sinoboss I purchased my Verizon compatible Pixel 6 Pro from https://www.ebay.com/str/thegizmotrader I followed their inventory for a couple weeks and found the details listed for their items very helpful . They clearly indicate the carrier the phone will work with and whether it is "Network Unlocked" (meaning carrier unlocked) of if it is "Factory Unlocked" (meaning OEM unlocked). You'll want factory/oem unlocked. They have several high resolution pictures of each Pixel and all from the same angels for comparison. Prices seem reasonable and I received it quickly. I'm very happy with the phone I purchased and GOS. I did the GOS install myself and it went perfectly.

I hope this is helpful and that you can get your refund from Amazon.

de0u so no matter the carrier, if it was once carrier locked, OEM unlocking will never work? btw u got any sites u recommend? tried swappa but they only take US cards zzz

sinoboss so no matter the carrier, if it was once carrier locked, OEM unlocking will never work?

I don't know that to be true "no matter what the carrier", but the original question was about one specific carrier.

sinoboss depends where you're from or able to buy from. They're not generally (maybe even by law?) factory locked in the EU for example. Mines a carrier phone directly from them and was not locked.

Yet another reason to stay away from Verizon unless they are an absolute last resort.

Their shitty little tricks more than make up for their “deals”.

I have found it best to buy my Pixels from either Google or Best Buy. Fewer shenanigans.

sinoboss You should not buy from a carrier, I bought mine personally from store.google.com

Just make sure to select unlocked and not a carrier like version, or else it won't work.

People have suggested buying from a physical store as well, but I personally only have ever used the google store
