Do we have a list of what works and what doesn't with the current Android Auto integration? I've been attempting to get Google Assistant to work with AA and I'm not sure if it's not working because of my setup or if it's not something that is currently supported. Curious to hear about the experience of others on the subject. I am using a fairly hacky android auto head unit (openauto) so this could be the source of my problems.
Android Auto working feature set
I setup AA today and Maps worked pretty good. Once in a while AA crashed but unplugging and plugging it back in seemed to fix it.
Is it expected that other apps won't work (yet). Such as Spotify?

You may have to enable Android Auto developer options and then within it enable "Unknown Sources"
grapheneosfan2 where is that located?
I have gotten assistant and spotify working. I've been unsuccessful with "ok google" detection but I think that may be a hard limit with GOS
badenoughdude did you get Spotify working via Developer Options and enabling Unknown Sources?

I have a similar question. I've installed a list of audio apps that should have Android Auto capability but none show up in Android Auto. (vlc, Musicolet, AIMP...all with storage scopes). I've tried rebooting but no luck. Update, I got them all to show up!!!!!
- Go into the Android Auto app.
- Tap the version number 10 or so times. You're a developer!
- Tap the 3 elipsses in the top right corner of the Android Auto app.
- Select Dev Settings
- Select "unknown sources" in the Dev Settings
- Success!
arnydo worked out of the box for me
arnydo this is by memory so i may be wrong
sandboxed google play settings
android auto
android auto settings
tap version at the bottom 10 times
top right, three dots. click it. developer options
unknown sources option is at the bottom, enable it
Did you download and install speech synthesizer app and set it up ? That was the missing piece for me
arnydo which map are you using?
Spotify works really well
I use Waze for GPS navigation and it is working well
Someone is able to send and receive sms from android auto?

Is Android Auto working only on Main user profile?
I have tried it on secondary account, what I know has some functions limited but there I have sandboxed google services.
Is there some guide how to set it up at least to make maps and music (VLC) to work?
Do not care about other things much.
For example what permissions Android Auto and Google services needs to have?
As I would prefer to disable it as much as possible.
ninjanoir789 Magic Earth which is privacy centric works great

firstly I installed it from Google app store, but than somehow it appear also in the Graphne app store from where you can install the google services.
- I made it work first time on Main profile, where i get notification that "Sandboxed Google Services are running"
And there was Android Auto menu, than I allowed Unauthorized USB to work in this menu and it worked, but only on Main profile. - I have just moved all my stuff from the secondary profile ( what I used for all) to the Main profile, as the Main profile has more priviliges (changing virtual SIM, changing wifi...)
EDIT:
I found it now!
- first install the Android Auto from the GrapheneOS App store, where you also need install Google App Services
- than in System Settings (or search for it) go to Apps > Sandboxed Google Play > Android Auto
- here you need to give at least the USB or Wirerless access
Also you can allow access to messages music... - one more thing ( not tested) in the Android Auto app setting itself, you may need to enable one setting in Dev Menu:
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/W6Gj_GQbjqw- You just may need to enable the "Unknown Sources" there if any issues
nahakubuilder where do you find the Graphine OS store?
