  • What is "com.samsung.slsi.telephony.oemril"

[deleted] changed the title to What is "com.samsung.slsi.telephony.oemril" .

Not sure, but seems to be standard on pixel devices, possibly a driver

[deleted] I believe the com.samsung part can indicate that Samsung was the original contributor of the code, not necessarily that the code relates to Samsung hardware, though Pixels do contain Samsung hardware, right?

I suspect "oemril" may decode as "OEM Radio Interface Layer".

I further suspect the relevant principle is "If it shipped with GrapheneOS, don't disable it without reading the source code first".

Thanks everyone!

That said, Universal Android Debloater NG states that the component com.samsung.slsi.telephony.oemril.oemrilhookservice is only used for data collection by the carrier and it is recommended to uninstall.

I wonder if someone here knows more about this.

Perhaps so, but com.samsung.slsi.telephony.oemril and com.samsung.slsi.telephony.oemril.oemrilhookservice are not the same. Which of them are present on your device? My 6a has only the base package, I think.

The oemril part stands for "OEM radio interface layer". Using a Samsung cellular modem is likely to require some interface code to talk to the radio, so it seems likely that "debloating" that code would result in a non-working cellular modem.

Is it possible to provide a link to specific information indicating that com.samsung.slsi.telephony.oemril is problematic?

de0u I know they're two separate packages, but they're both present on a 7A with GOS.

Neither one has network access, how could they spy on you?
Universal Debloater team has no idea wtf is going on.

[deleted] Agreed, those descriptions are quite a mess, it's tricky to use. I just had to (total prerequisite) use Debloater on a Galaxy A35 (otherwise solid hardware), thought I'd connect a 7A with GOS and see what turned up.

Its icon is atrocious. It would be great if all system apps had the generic robot head icon:

That would indeed be heaven : )

AlanZ I think they are cute. They are from Jelly Bean days, or even before.

            That's the problem.

              AlanZ I meant the icons.
As for the packages themeselves, they are only for hardware enablement, so them being outdated is not an issue.

@SovereignCopper This is not a carrier application and is not used for data collection. The project you've linked has highly inaccurate information about this and about many other things. It's a terrible idea to use it at all. We'd prefer this thread not being revived for this. The original information here was correct. This is part of the Samsung cellular modem infrastructure used by the OS to provide cellular support. Disabling it or any other OS component not explicitly documented as something that can be disabled safely and makes sense to disable is a bad idea.

We removed the link to that GitHub project. People who want to find it can still do so based on the name.

GrapheneOS Its a very useful project on Samsung and Xiaomi devices. On GrapheneOS it makes no sense to use ofc.
