  • Pixel 8 / 8 Pro releases available

applesbana That depends entirely on whether any issues are found during testing that have to be sorted out.

Keep in mind that experimental release are production releases, not some kind of debug release. They're just releases that are not yet released to the alpha channel due to more testing being needed before the team is confident to put it there. Even if you're not comfortable with flashing the release yet, you can swing by https://app.element.io/#/room/#testing:grapheneos.org to see what others are saying/reporting to get a sense of how things are going. :)

I've had a flawless experience so far with the experimental releases. 👍

      Thx for sharing that!

Pixel 8 Pro on the experimental release here, no issues found so far. Works perfectly for me.

Has anyone installed Google camera and Google photos ? Do they have the same features as stock ?

Can confirm Pixel 8 Pro on experimental release from yesterday working fine so far (including fingerprint unlock), still setting everything up and will update if something doesn't work well.

@L8437 As for the Google features, you might want to ask about a specific feature, otherwise it's hard to give a good answer. Taking photos and videos works well, and I can change many settings about quality and so on. I don't have network permissions on either app.

brn hi so basically, if you install Google camera from play store, do you have the "pro" settings within the camera app. This is specific to the pixel 8 pro

L8437 Yep. I can choose the 50MP quality and so on. I haven't tried it because it disables the live photo, for example.

brn great to know. What do you mean by live photo?

            • brn replied to this.

L8437 "Top Shot" is what they call it. A short video that accompanies the moments before and after the photo.

L8437 And if you additionally install Google Photos, you can also use the after effects (magic eraser etc...). Just give it network permission for few minutes for some features to activate and then revoke it again if you need.

Can Google Photos work alongside FOSS galleries like Aves, which also offer some excellent features not found in Google Photos? i.e. can you access photos from either gallery?

During the period that Google Photos is enabled does it scan and upload any metadata on existing photos to Google?

Apple Testflght lets users try unreleased versions of apps but does not lock them in. They can always revert back.

If there is a phone-stopping usability defect in the Pixel 8 GrapheneOS, is is reasonably easy to restore stock Google (until the GrapheneOS software defect is corrected)?

ve3jlg Yes, you can absolutely revert back to stock if you need, more info here. Do bear in mind that your data is wiped between installs, however.

I've used my P8P for a few hours now: calls, music, bluetooth with car, headphones, etc. No issues at all, and battery looks solid.

I must say it feels very tempting to use the experimental version on my daily driver with all those comments about a great experience, but I won't.
