Im on a fresh install of Ubuntu 22.04.2 and I bought a Google Pixel 5 from a store that recycles phones. The phone looks and feels as good as new so I don't think there should be any problem there but I am in doubt.
I enabled OEM unlocking of course.

I am trying the webUSB install method with Brave as the browser, but it gives me this error:
Error: Failed to execute 'open' on 'USBDevice': Access denied

No not before but I just got it now and I still can't get it to work. When I press the "unlock bootloader" button it doesn't show my pixel 5 as an option. It worked earlier but then on my device I messed around with the usb preferences a bit. I have enabled and disabled usb debugging a few times as well.

I read the guide a bit more thoroughly this time and deleted my flatpak version of brave in favor of the other one and I updated my phone twice which is weird that it asks for three security updates now immediately after each other.

Im a little lost now, thank you for replying.

xgrg You denied USB access somewhere...Check your web browser and OS USB settings.

I went into fastboot on the phone and it shows up as an entry on my browser after I click the button now. However I am getting the error message again.

Might this be a problem with this phone?

[deleted] Interesting, so it's either something in Ubuntu or Brave. Does anybody know what it could be in any one of these?

xgrg Like I said: Check your USB settings. You denied the access somewhere when you "messed around with the usb preferences a bit."

Alright, I wanna try each option there is, and there are five it seems. I will try once on each with usb debugging enabled and then once with usb debugging disabled.

I have usb debugging disabled and the preference is at "file transfer". This actually seemed to load, but I get a completely new error now:
Error: Failed to execute 'claimInterface' on 'USBDevice': Unable to claim interface.

That makes 1 out of 10

xgrg I did not say to check your USB debugging setting. I said to check your web browser and OS USB settings. If your web browser and OS USB settings are set to denied, that could be a reason why you're receiving that error message. The same thing goes with your device's USB setting.

xgrg Error: Failed to execute 'claimInterface' on 'USBDevice': Unable to claim interface.

Do you have any web browser tabs open? Only have the tab open that has the installation running.

xgrg You're having issues, because you're deviating from the official install guide.

xgrg Error: Failed to execute 'claimInterface' on 'USBDevice': Unable to claim interface.

That error is because you have another program or service running on your PC which is interfering with webUSB. Restart your PC and open only the web installer and this forum.

xgrg I will try once on each with usb debugging enabled

USB debugging should be disabled. Once again, please follow the install guide closely, and do not deviate.

Alright, I am gonna do this for completion in case anyone else is having the same problem and finds this thread.
Without USB debugging enabled for any of them.

Usb tethering = Error: Failed to execute 'selectConfiguration' on 'USBDevice': An operation that changes interface state is in progress.

Uhh actually I tried that again and now it's unlocked!

I got the factory images, now as I went to flash them I got this error again:
Error: Failed to execute 'claimInterface' on 'USBDevice': Unable to claim interface.
On the phone I am on the fastbootd menu. I have the following options:
              Reboot system now
              Enter recovery mode
              Reboot to bootloader
              Power off
Which one of these should I press? I also have the option to press "Lock bootloader" on the website? Is there anything I can do here that won't fuck things up?

xgrg Error: Failed to execute 'claimInterface' on 'USBDevice': Unable to claim interface.

We've explained what that error is in relation to and how to fix it. Please re-read what was said.

xgrg You still have something interfering with WebUSB on your PC.

Make sure you stop all other processes on your PC, I suggest restarting it.

On your phone, select reboot to bootloader, and then then flash release again.

                -Usb debugging is turned off
                -I restarted my computer
-after restarting I opened brave and nothing else with just one tab open with the installer
-I rebooted to the bootloader on the phone, it's still unlocked
-I pressed the "flash release" button
-I still get the "Error: Failed to execute 'claimInterface' on 'USBDevice': Unable to claim interface."
I checked my settings on brave and ubuntu earlier and couldn't find anything, but let me check more thoroughly once again.
