Same problem here: fingerprint unlock through different profiles doesn't work. I'm a new user, but I'm surprised that this bug has been going on for months. The only solution know so is a complete re-install? :(
BUG: Fingerprint unlock disabled after profile change

simono The only solution know so is a complete re-install? :(
No indication any of this works, please don't factory reset or reinstall for nothing. GitHub issue is still there.
This has not been an issue for me after I upgraded to A14 GOS. Currently on UP1A.231005.007.2023101300
Although, when switching profiles, I have to wait 3 seconds before fingerprint unlock becomes available.

Not every time for me. Sometimes it's just PIN lock and no way around it.
This fingerprint bug is a mess. C'mon, Google........
I have passwords which have 56 characters.... that really sucks people...

My password is not quite as long - but I also find it annoying.
I also think it's a security issue if I'm forced to enter my password in public (and possibly be watched while doing so) because the fingerprint doesn't work...

A workaround for this is to unlock the device then open any app that uses the FP, like Bitwarden or other, then access the app using the FP. After that, FP in lockscreen was available and functional again

Thanks a lot, I'll give it a try. Entering the security settings menu and disable/enable the fingerprints brings back the functionality as well. But your approach sounds to be little bit easier.
BTW I'm facing this issue since A13 and it continues similar (not same!) with A14. If I remember correct, the fingerprint icon was not shown at all with A13 but with A14 it shows up briefly and changes to the lock icon after approx 0.5s.

This seems to be happening more and more when switching profiles, it's incredibly annoying. As above, would rather not have to enter PIN, especially when out in public.
We are soon 6 months after this bug was explored and there will be no fixes to this behavior from upstream.
Only hope we have is to have a grapheneos developer willingness to solve this for us
GhostLead Interesting workaround. I have tested it, but unfortunately it doesn't work for me. 😔
Also an interesting workaround. I've tested it, but unfortunately it doesn't work for me either. 😔
Initially, I was still offered biometric unlocking from time to time. For a few days now, I've been asked to enter my password every time I change my profile.
I don't really want to replace my long password with a short PIN for the sake of convenience, even though it should probably still be very secure due to the throtteling. As I change profiles frequently, this is quite annoying in the long run...

If anyone else is struggling with this problem, I have found another workaround that sometimes helps:
If the prompt for entering the password appears when changing the profile, swipe from left to right (go back) 1-2 times. Then I can usually see the fingerprint prompt and successfully unlock the profile with the fingerprint.
A note: I use Gesture navigation (Settings>System>Gestures>Navigation mode>Gesture navigation) - I can't say whether the workaround also works with "Go back" in 3-button navigation.
It works for me in roughly half of all attempts - unfortunately not a perfect solution, but in my case it saves me entering a long password at least every 2nd attempt.

Murcielago Tried but it doesn't seems to work for me. Thanks anyway
Oh, what a pity to hear that. As I said, it doesn't always work for me either. Hopefully the bug will be fixed upstream soon.
I have the issues of no fingerprint option when switching profiles . once logged in it works as intended without doing anything special . seems to have happened in the last two updates .
@GrapheneOS this has been marked as an upstream issue and bug tracker shows no sign of it going to be resolved.
However since upstream seem they are not going to fix this isn't this something that should be fixed within GrapheneOS scope?
Profile switching is a core GOS usability and feature that lets us separate information between profiles. GOS has made using profile more usable in many ways.
Having the option of seamless switching between these profiles while using a good authentication method such as fingerprint is really needed. It could be because you are in a camera surveillance area and don't want to enter the code all time.
My question is, isnt this something that should be considered to be fixed after all? Since upstream has had this tagged for 9 months now.
As of now with latest version of GOS this issue is still present. The fingerprint unlock option is disabled when switching profiles back and forth and requires passcode everytime.
