  • Feature request: Panic profiles removing

If law enforcements want to scan your phone, you could say you do not remember the PIN or instantly wipe the phone, resulting be detained for 24/48 hours because why not.

Let’s say, the user uses secondary profiles on daily basis instead the Owner profile.

My feature request is to delete all secondary profiles, if “particular” PIN number is typed on locked screen. When Police/border guard ask you to unlock the phone on the airport, you type “that” PIN, secondary profiles are deleted and phone is unlocked to Owner profile which doesn’t have any custom apps and its data.
Then you give the phone to law enforcements with no additional suspicions.

What do you think?

Dren6744 there is a feature being planned for grapheme called a "duress" password, that you type and it completely erases the phone. But not sure when or how it'll work

We will see that, a combination of a reliable backup solution and quick way to clean your phone is the way to go

perhaps an option in settings to wipe the whole phone or just a single profile upon entering a secret password on the lockscreen?

Graphite Currently nothing special, but I keep the most important stuff on various USB drives and other storage solutions which are encrypted with cryptomator.
But I do this mostly by hand of static or rarely changing data.
      But this getting of topic

Removing secondary profiles may be much faster than wiping entire system and "time" could be important in some situations.

matchboxbananasynergy Theres nothing better ATM, and the chance of the attacker knowing exactly what is happening to bypass it in time is low. But you're right, its easily rendered useless in cerain situations.

[deleted] Cases where this is relevant (such as an entity that has seized the device and is trying to get data off of it), the people doing it definitely know about it. Forensics companies specifically know about Wasted and about how trivial it is to bypass.

GrapheneOS' upcoming duress feature will not have the same deficiencies.

I cannot wait for that feature to drop! So important, unstoppable self destriction initiated by various methodes, remotely as well.

Wasted does not work and is trivially bypassable. All you need to do to stop it is boot into fastboot when it's wiping. You should not rely on it.

@matchboxbananasynergy Thank you very much for telling us about its critical, weak point! While, as [deleted] mentioned, Wasted app is the best what we got at the moment and it might come very usefull for many, in contless situations even if it is not perfect or unstoppable. Actually its dev has some newer paid version as well. But depending on the country, LE type and situation, it is rare to have a smartphone forensic team to show up or be available during those 3 seconds when the reformat starts. If ther eis such a forensic team there, than you have committed some very serious crimes (which is not the case for most Wasted users), so II would still recomend its usage untikl there is no betetr solution/tool.

Best way to setup this would be 1234 password to delete all.
So if they try to guess the password, 99% they will try 1234 or 0000, something simple..
