Been there, done that. Never again buying ANYTHING with optical sensor. My recent p9pxl with ultrasonic is better, but still - you gotta keep your goddamn finger in special fkng conditions, just a bit too dry or too wet - and good luck. Or should I say Good Lock. 😁

Haven't tried, but it seems highly unlikely to me the fingerprint reader in the power button of the Pixel Tablet would work if you touch it with gloves on, though.

DeletedUser784 you miss the point. the underscreen sensor is worse to recon finger than button sensor. had few phones with this, never been an issue. and then bought samsung, then pixel. both under the sceen, both shitty.

I fully understand your point and the specific requirements for your use case, but I don't agree that integration of the sensor in the power button is the better engineering choice, and I personally don't like this feature of my Pixel Tablet at all (to put it mildly). It's not a deal breaker to me, since other unlock options are available. I understand this may be different for other users, so perhaps we should not hijack this thread with our fun but somewhat off topic discussion. 🙂

Probably Motorola.

There are very few devices available across multiple countries. Samsung cripples their security features if Bootloader unlocked.

So i think it could be Moto bcz
They are the one of the top mobile manufacturers.
Available in many countries.
Have devices in multiple price range, as team already mentioned they will support their high end devices first.
Already supports alternative oses.

Vomitorius I will! Off course, I have never ever worn gloves in my entire life, and I will be eternally grateful to you for pointing out the huge problems one encounters when wearing gloves while using a phone. Thank you so much for the enlightenment! 😂

Fingerprint unlock is rubbish, it can last as little as 30 minutes in my case, I am a manual worker, bricks tiles and copper pipe, my fingers get nicks and cuts all the time. I use exclusively a pin number.

DeletedUser499 I fully understand, but I don't understsnd why you are addressing me. I just vented my dissatisfaction with the fingerprint sensor built into the power button of my Pixel Tablet, as a reaction to Vomitorius's message praising such a feature. It's not like i've been claiming fingerprint sendors are perfect, or don't understand their obvious limitations and drawbacks.
I now regret having posted at all and will refrain from further reactions.

1 reason I like the Pixel, is a seperate chip entirely for the TPM (I won't do biometrics otherwise), and not having it share the processor chip. Is this a requirement for GrapheneOS? Or did that just happen by coincidence with the Pixels?

sky9000 I used to like the type of fingerprint sensor on the back of the device such as my Mi Max 3 some years ago. Now I use revolutionary scrambled PIN on a device with dedicated security chip.

Please, people, do yourself a favour and stop speculating on the new OEM/GrapheneOS collaboration. It isn't going to bring it any sooner.

Its Motorola. GrapheneOS already said it was one or the OEMs they were interested in working with and they have already confirmed all other OEMs they were interested in weren't the OEM they are working with now. This is all public information from twitter and mastodon.

The device they are most likely targeting is the Motorola Razr 70 ultra 2026. It will have the snapdragon 8 elite gen5 SoC which should be complying with GrapheneOS's hardware requirements. There is still some doubt that this hardware and firmware will be up to standard and a possibility that GrapheneOS is only able to support a later gen Motorola phone. This would then most likely be the Motorola Razr 80 ultra 2027 with a gen6 snapdragon 8 elite.

Its probably better for you to avoid such threads. GrapheneOS have publically stated its happening, there is no reason at all not to have fun speculating.

Before you speculating...The current devices have years of updates ahead. And Google is still the monopoly that handles all critical security issues and advisories. Let it be a smooth transition, then see the release schedule, unless its proves itaelf before 2028-9 you are all just wasting time.
