Nicknameforgotten @mmmm talking about the OEM partnership in a public setting likely won't do anything but harm GrapheneOS. If I'm not mistaken, that OEM is how we're getting access to embargoed security patches. I wouldn't want to do anything you jeopardize that.

I get that it's fun and we're all excited about the idea of a phone built for GOS and such, but let's practice patience and let the project announce the partnership if/when they deem it appropriate to do so.

On GrapheneOS’s Twitter, I believe they’ve said they don’t have an NDA, but are simply not naming the OEM because it would look better if the OEM revealed it themselves

GrouchyGrape I don't see any problems with it and I think you're seriously overestimating the effect that this thread can have on that matter. Especially since there's already chatter about it elsewhere.

So no, I don't think there's reason to worry. Especially not in regards to the OEM sharing the code. GrapheneOS is already quite open about that and bring it up unprompted. When the OEM is named, it'll be revealed anyway. Or will it? It could be they got it from a different OEM.

And most importantly, nobody here actually knows anything. So what is anyone gonna do with this loose speculation, and quite frankly, mere guesses.

It's speculation from random people on the internet. It's not like we're leaking documents or insider information. 😛 GrapheneOS haven't requested that people don't talk about it, as far as I've seen. I think they expect it. Maybe they even want some chatter, to get the word out. 🙃

Like others say, it's all for fun. Some people like to speculate. Some don't. 🤷‍♂️

But I find GrapheneOS is usually quite transparent with things. So my understanding is if they chose to announce they have an OEM but not who, there's probably good reason for it.

Here's a quote from the project account:

GrapheneOS The terms with our OEM partner are not really under NDA, and neither is which OEM we're working with, but we don't want to publish which OEM we're working with until an official announcement with them. We'd also prefer if they make the announcement and we spread it because it would look better.

That is why I personally prefer not to speculate about it. It's probably best we wait it out until the project or the OEM releases any further information.

Fine, and you can do what you like, on the other hand creating buz, chatting about possibilities etc, drums up interest. Look at the success of rumour sites like macrumors for example. This new partnership will flourish much faster if installing gos is a selling point, an official GrapheneOS phone! If Graphene didn't want anyone on the interent to speak about it, they wouldn't have publically posted about it.

Please, no. I enjoy my Pixel Tablet, but the fingerprint reader being integrated in the power button is a nuisance. I hated it so much, that I actually disabled fingerprint unlocking on my tablet.

In my opinion, putting the sensor in the power button is a very bad engineering choice. It makes the button behave contraintuitively, I found it pretty close to unusable and could not get used to it. I have no problems whatsoever wirh the under screen fingerprint sensor of my Pixel 8.
I don't like (or trust) facial recognition very much.

nologo well, you maybe never had to unlock your phone when working with gloves. Especially 8's optical sensor... just try it. Work, then take off to unlock and...enjoy.
Been there, done that. Never again buying ANYTHING with optical sensor. My recent p9pxl with ultrasonic is better, but still - you gotta keep your goddamn finger in special fkng conditions, just a bit too dry or too wet - and good luck. Or should I say Good Lock. 😁

Haven't tried, but it seems highly unlikely to me the fingerprint reader in the power button of the Pixel Tablet would work if you touch it with gloves on, though.

nologo you miss the point. the underscreen sensor is worse to recon finger than button sensor. had few phones with this, never been an issue. and then bought samsung, then pixel. both under the sceen, both shitty.

I fully understand your point and the specific requirements for your use case, but I don't agree that integration of the sensor in the power button is the better engineering choice, and I personally don't like this feature of my Pixel Tablet at all (to put it mildly). It's not a deal breaker to me, since other unlock options are available. I understand this may be different for other users, so perhaps we should not hijack this thread with our fun but somewhat off topic discussion. 🙂

There are very few devices available across multiple countries. Samsung cripples their security features if Bootloader unlocked.

So i think it could be Moto bcz
They are the one of the top mobile manufacturers.
Available in many countries.
Have devices in multiple price range, as team already mentioned they will support their high end devices first.
Already supports alternative oses.

Vomitorius I will! Off course, I have never ever worn gloves in my entire life, and I will be eternally grateful to you for pointing out the huge problems one encounters when wearing gloves while using a phone. Thank you so much for the enlightenment! 😂
