Hello guys,

out of interest: do you use different launchers, than the GrapheneOS launcher?
What is the benefit of another launcher? (I'm coming from iOS).

Used mLauncher, which is like OLauncher. Now using Neo-Launcher. Both allow to double-tap to turn off the screen, which I find convenient. Spares the power button. But it's less secure.

I use Lawnchair to be able to change the lay-out of the homescreen, to remove the dock, to adapt icons and icon sizes, to remove unused apps from the app drawer, to swipe down to show the notification bar, and to double-tap to turn off the screen.

I started using KISS years ago (before GrapheneOS even) and I fell in love with it and I cannot use another launcher anymore.

Nova Launcher - the modded version with telemetry supposedly removed. Still I deny it network access as I don't think that is what any launcher should use due to being a pretty big attack surface. The reason is that its functionality and customization is unmatched compared to any other launcher I've tried. Any function I've liked in any other launcher Nova has too. It also does stuff that is unique to it. You can add additional functions when swiping up or down on the icons e.g. when I press the phone icon it shows the dialer app, when I swipe up on it it show the contacts app, and when I swipe down on it it show the SIM card profiles from the settings. And yeah, another great function is the ability to create shortcuts that directly link to specific app functions like different setting menus. So instead of needing to go Settings->Network&Internet->VPN I can just add a shortcut to my VPN app icon so when I swipe up on it it takes me directly to this setting so I can disable kill switch or whatever. Finally, it allows to use an expanded set of gestures you can assingn as you wish. This is useful in situations like say I need to bring up my 2FA app quickly, so I can set up a specific gesture to run it from home screen without looking in the menus. These gestures are much quicker than looking for an icon to press. These are of course all QoL and not security/privacy focused reasons.

Michiel I really like Lawnchair myself. It's light and customizable.

Not being able to change the title of apps in the stock launcher is a pain. I want to prefix an app with "Health", "Car", and other words that suit me so I can find them easier. I see no reason to need extra screens to keep certain apps together.
That's one reason for a customisable launcher, and Lawnchair is good

Do any of these allow for word wrapping of app titles into two or three lines of text and/or extending the text field horizontally? There's so much unused space below each app, and so many apps that don't display their whole title.

GrouchyGrape You can find apks for modded versions of Nova Launcher 7 in various locations. I'd probably run stock launcher before I'd try that tbh.

          5 days later

Lawnchair has a lot of no-gos

It shows a warning that it is built for an older Android version. Not sure what SDK version that is, but it is probably very outdated.

It has no support for separate work profile, the apps are just mixed in and cannot be disabled.

No private space support at all.

I used NovaLauncher very long, but the split screen feature caused a crash. May have been fixed. If you can pay it outside the playstore (I think you can) I might try it again. Really liked it back then.

TinyBit Launcher, because it has more customizability than KISS. You can really go pixel perfect crazy there.

On other devices (for a more classic launcher experience, but with a lot of customizability) I have Neo Launcher installed.

Neither have private space support yet, though.

I tried Lawnchair builds some years ago, but had the worst experience in terms of stability and memory use, plus I seem to remember it has proprietary blobs.

Byku Hi. How's the recent apps issue with Nova? I still have a Nova Prime license but stopped using it because there were some issues, especially with the Recents shortcut while using gestures. It wasn't great right after it was implemented.

I'll probably install it and take it for a spin to see how's it behaving.
