  • Hello there 👋

  • Yes. Go for Gadgetbridge. Brilliant app. You can still use Garmin Pay for payments. Just set it up before you delete the connect app.

  • Highlights an important reason for desiring privacy with regard to these services. Even if, even if they did have my best interests at heart and even if they claimed they'd respect my privacy they obviously can't be trusted to do so. I'll have to take things into my own hands.

  • No offence but I can't understand why someone would want to use GOS and secure it with pattern unlock? Seems like a contradiction to me. I'll easily see your pattern from across the room.
I remember seeing, on some people's phones, the pattern clearly visible in the grease on their screen.

    • OfflinePuffin No. Only supports contactless payments on Huawei phones I believe. Fortunately I have a Garmin watch so I added my Curve card to Garmin pay on my watch and that works great even when using Gadgetbridge instead of Garmin Connect. So that has been my solution.

    • K8y I honestly don't know. You could try setting up another profile with sandboxed play services running and see if it works ok?

      • K8y replied to this.

      • I'm using mine as my daily driver. Fortunately i don't know anyone who uses Google Meet though.

        • Tutamail for email. Tuta doesn't use use Google’s Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) service, so will still get push notifications.
Other than that I would advise using the search and trawling through the forum. You'll learn so much on the way!

          • The giant screen is really cool. But you do have to baby it a bit, that inside screen isn't as durable as a normal phone. I wouldn't get a used one either. You don't know how it's been treated. And screen replacement costs are a nightmare.

            • Thanks guys. You've given me some stuff to research now and think about.

            • Hi everyone. A bit of hopefully helpful info first. I have moved to Graphene OS on my Pixel 8 Pro because I anticipate being in a land in the near future where me and people like me are persecuted. I want to be in a situation where if the state detains me and gets my Pixel they will absolutely not be able to access any info ie contacts etc that would lead them to friends and family. I hope I'll be able to use the duress password before that happens, regardless of possible consequences to me. Being new to this, I would appreciate any advice you could give regarding Graphenos settings or anything else I should be utilising in this scenario to make the device impenetrable to those who get their hands on it. Thank you

              • GrouchyGrape You can find apks for modded versions of Nova Launcher 7 in various locations. I'd probably run stock launcher before I'd try that tbh.
