Hello everyone
My first post on this discussion forum, so please forgive me if something out of lines

Revolut - Mobile finance ( the normal banking app ) showing since yesterday the problem of
¨Sorry, revolut is not supported on devices with custom firmware¨

Revolut app installed from Aurora
version 10.56
com.revolut.revolut
versionCode 10056003883

It would be nice that other people showing the same would leave the infor here. I saw there was another comrade with same problem with revolut X for t another device.

I do not know if the fact of installing form Aurora might be related to this? My knowledge is quite basic

Send my best regards and many thanks to our beloved devs for the work!

Hey, the exact version works just fine on my P8 (installed from Play Store, owner profile, GOS 2024111800)

876fi The Revolut version mentioned by the OP works on my Pixel 8a as well.

In fact, I happen to made a report about it here

May I ask if your GrapheneOS is fully updated and which device are you running it on?

I can confirm OP's report with Revolut version 10.56 installed from Play Store. However, it only occurs when you select "Log in" when you start the app before having signed in. I'm running the same version in Private Space which is already signed in and it does not block me.

    …at least not yet.

Edit: It's displaying the same message as Revolut X:

Sorry, Revolut is not supported on devices with custom firmware

We're serious about keeping your data secure. If you would like to install and use the app, please use a device with official Android firmware

Damn... This is getting ridiculous. Revolut is one of those banks that only offers an app, you have no other option. It's getting harder and harder to keep using a non-stock Android. I honestly think that in 2 or 3 years it won't be viable any longer, as most critical apps will refuse to run otherwise.

SafetyNet/Play Integrity will basically kill Android as we know it. An "open source" operating system that you're not actually allowed to run.

lbschenkel Revolut is one of those banks that only offers an app, you have no other option.

I can log in to the web app on revolut.com (haven't actually tried it before now), but the functionality is severely limited. I can view the last few transactions on my account and block a card, and that's mostly it. Seems like the web app is intended as just some emergency measure.

fid02 Yes, I'm aware. That's why I said that you basically don't have any option besides stopping being their customer. I actually feel pretty mad and I would do that right now, but for me Wise which used to be competitive (and I like more) now costs in total fees per year 3x the cost of what I pay Revolut, and I don't know any other viable competitor.

Does anyone here know any good alternative to Revolut or Wise in Europe for currency conversions? Like to convert your salary every month? Even better if it's not one of these "app-only" banks?

        Yes, I'm aware.

Was intended as a side-note / more info about how the service makes users dependent on the app. Shouldn't have tagged you.

ico eveeyone's set of important apps is different. To me, your app is less than unimportant since it doesn't consider me worthy of using it. You can always complain, or you can find an alternative. And never look back.

You can always complain [to Revolut], or you can find an alternative.

          Or both, perhaps?

I just wrote to Revolut customer support, explaining that the newest app version appears to block GrapheneOS*, briefly explained about its security and privacy features and why I use it, and that I'll be locked out of the Revolut app soon and will therefore close my account if GrapheneOS is not allowed to run the app. I also linked to the attestation guide as a way for the developers to allowlist GrapheneOS, and kindly asked that my feedback be forwarded to the development team.

          The support agent replied:

I understand your concern about the Revolut app blocking new sign-in attempts on GrapheneOS, despite it working previously. Revolut does not officially conduct compatibility tests or provide official app functionality on GrapheneOS or other custom Android-based operating systems. The message you received indicates that Revolut is serious about data security and currently requires the use of devices with official Android firmware for app access.

Quite a predictable reply from a CSR. But also:

I have shared your feedback with our Developments team for the betterment in future.

which is at least something. Let's see if they change anything.

I encourage everyone who's a customer to write to Revolut and complain about this. Let's try to put some pressure on them. As long as you haven't signed out of the app, you'll be able to open a ticket.

I've also left a one-star review with a brief explanation on their Play Store entry. Think that's entirely fair.

*I know that it's likely not blocking GrapheneOS specifically, but more likely blocking all OSs that are not stamped with Google's certification, but it seemed too much to go into details on that in a support chat. Think it was clear that I don't care about those OSs anyway.

DeletedUser69 You can always complain, or you can find an alternative. And never look back.

That's easy to say, but not always easy to implement.
There are cases where you can't just change your bank or health insurance at the drop of a hat.

What are you left with in the end? If you have to? When things can only be done via the app? And let's be honest, more and more banks and health insurance companies are relying solely on the app. You're lost if you don't use the app.
This is not just a custom ROM or GOS problem. No, it's also not barrier-free, not low-threshold.
This is a problem of our time, in the system as such.

I see a serious problem coming our way. Or it's already there.

What else is there to do but switch back to Stock? As it currently (still) stands, nothing. It's like this. Fact.

I have hope that there might be a solution after all. Hope dies last.

gethvi I just downloaded this version, signed up, and everything is working as expected.

DeletedUser69 this is a naive and simplistic view. Just because you don't need the app, ignoring the problem doesn't make it go away. Yeah sure I can find an alternative but what will we do when there are no more alternatives?

Also, even a local government app that allows me to upload my driving license enfores these checks, and doesn't work on gos. Does that still sound useless to you?

ico That is already the case in Denmark. The MitID app that is essential for everything (it is the government authentication solution) refuses to work in GOS. Without it you can't use any government website, read any digital post, use your card online, nor do any banking, you can't even call the bank to speak to them because you need to authenticate via the app in the process.

At least they offer a dongle. In the other hand Sweden has a similar setup and it is only via app. The moment they turn this on you will be a de facto non-citizen unless you use a blessed phone.

There is no "option" to choose. Usage of some apps are de facto mandatory.

I really wish EU will step in and stop this madness. But I suspect that when they decide to act, it will be too late already.
