That was my (possibly incorrect) conclusion from reading the forum posts.

    Also:

Aurora Store has some issues of its own, and some of them overlap in fact with F-Droid. Aurora Store somehow still requires the legacy storage permission, has yet to implement certificate pinning, has been known to sometimes retrieve wrong versions of apps, and distributed account tokens over cleartext HTTP until fairly recently; not that it matters much since tokens were designed to be shared between users, which is already concerning.

Not sure how up to date that info is

  • The last time I tried to update the Proton apps using Obtainium by scrapping the Proton github pages, it was failing more often than not. Oftentimes Aurora Store would show me updates were available for the Proton apps while Obtainium wouldn't find anything even when checking manually. That was the case few months ago.

Since then I've ditched Obtainium for Accrescent + Aurora Stora. While it's possible getting updates through Aurora is less secure than by Obtainium, it has been much more hassle free for me.

    • If you use mobile data often, the 9 will likely give you better battery life. If you spend most time on WiFi, the battery life improvement over the 8 pro will be incremental.

The SoC of both phones' is made using the same technological process but the 9 series has a newer modem. Reddit people claim the 9 series has longer SOT and improved modem performance.

    • In my case running GrapheneOS on Pixel 8a, the Aurora has never automatically updated itself nor it has been visible as an app within itself. I've installed it by downloading the .apk from GitLab releases.

According to the changelog regarding the version 4.6.2:

Added auto update for Nightly builds

Meanwhile yesterday I manually updated the Aurora Store app to v4.6.3 only to receive a notification from the Aurora app itself about a possible update to v4.6.4. Unfortunately when I hit the Update button the process ended with "Download failed".

I'll update manually and hope soon it will be able to update itself successfully.

    • In this reddit post someone mentioned:

      • Bunq
      • n26
      • monese
      • wise
      • Openbank

      I've also encountered

      • zen

      Any experiences with these?
Do their apps work in GrapheneOS?
      Do they have free tiers?

      • I've created a new discussion about the alternatives to Revolut here

      • As mention in this discussion, the new app update made it impossible to log into Revolut after a new app installation / data wipe.

I'd like to learn about and discuss available alternatives. Personally I have two strong criteria:

        • the app must work on GrapheneOS
        • it must be available in Europe
        • Would it be too offtopic to ask for some alternatives to Revolut? Europe based and app working (i.e. allowing to sign in) on GrapheneOS. To exchange between European currencies and pay with single use debit cards for shopping. I'd like a free tier as well.

          • I've just received an update to the version 10.56.1.

            Does the issue still persist?

            • 876fi The Revolut version mentioned by the OP works on my Pixel 8a as well.

In fact, I happen to made a report about it here

May I ask if your GrapheneOS is fully updated and which device are you running it on?

            • Viewpoint0232 I'd like to know as well
Recently I've realized I've been sitting on the same version for few months when I saw on GitLab there have been two or three new releases since

            • Thank you! I can confirm I was able to download and install Aurora Store from Vanadium in the Private Space. I had to make sure to manually select the right version from the GitHub releases as the one installed wasn't the latest for some reason.

            • Ammako I can confirm this switch has fixed the problem and I agree the information about the captive portals should be shown in the settings themselves rather than only in the FAQ

            • Oggyo I'm using a VPN with a built in DNS so I guess not

            • Is it possible to install apps in the Private Space using Aurora Store? When I click Install I get redirected to GrapheneOS apk store where I can download Accrescent and GPS.

              • Ammako This is indeed something I've done. I will try to switch them back on and I'll report on the problem.

                • Ever since I've switched to a Pixel 8a from Pixel 7, I seem unable to connect to WiFi networks requiring some kind of a signing in through the captive portal.

On Pixel 7 the captive portal opened when attempting to connect with a network. On Pixel 8 nothing opens and I'm stuck unable to log in

Anyone the same issue? Any ideas how to get around it?

                  • Are there any plans to introduce a default switch for all the apps just like in the case of the DCL via memory?

                    • de0u replied to this.
                    • Long story short, I've tried to enable all the exploit protections in the Exploit protection settings. I've discovered one banking app won't start without Dynamic Code Loading via memory and another one without DCL via storage.

This guideline on app quality discourages the use of DCL. This article mentions obfuscation. Is that the main reason banking apps would use DCL?
