ico eveeyone's set of important apps is different. To me, your app is less than unimportant since it doesn't consider me worthy of using it. You can always complain, or you can find an alternative. And never look back.

You can always complain [to Revolut], or you can find an alternative.

    Or both, perhaps?

I just wrote to Revolut customer support, explaining that the newest app version appears to block GrapheneOS*, briefly explained about its security and privacy features and why I use it, and that I'll be locked out of the Revolut app soon and will therefore close my account if GrapheneOS is not allowed to run the app. I also linked to the attestation guide as a way for the developers to allowlist GrapheneOS, and kindly asked that my feedback be forwarded to the development team.

    The support agent replied:

I understand your concern about the Revolut app blocking new sign-in attempts on GrapheneOS, despite it working previously. Revolut does not officially conduct compatibility tests or provide official app functionality on GrapheneOS or other custom Android-based operating systems. The message you received indicates that Revolut is serious about data security and currently requires the use of devices with official Android firmware for app access.

Quite a predictable reply from a CSR. But also:

I have shared your feedback with our Developments team for the betterment in future.

which is at least something. Let's see if they change anything.

I encourage everyone who's a customer to write to Revolut and complain about this. Let's try to put some pressure on them. As long as you haven't signed out of the app, you'll be able to open a ticket.

I've also left a one-star review with a brief explanation on their Play Store entry. Think that's entirely fair.

*I know that it's likely not blocking GrapheneOS specifically, but more likely blocking all OSs that are not stamped with Google's certification, but it seemed too much to go into details on that in a support chat. Think it was clear that I don't care about those OSs anyway.

DeletedUser69 You can always complain, or you can find an alternative. And never look back.

That's easy to say, but not always easy to implement.
There are cases where you can't just change your bank or health insurance at the drop of a hat.

What are you left with in the end? If you have to? When things can only be done via the app? And let's be honest, more and more banks and health insurance companies are relying solely on the app. You're lost if you don't use the app.
This is not just a custom ROM or GOS problem. No, it's also not barrier-free, not low-threshold.
This is a problem of our time, in the system as such.

I see a serious problem coming our way. Or it's already there.

What else is there to do but switch back to Stock? As it currently (still) stands, nothing. It's like this. Fact.

I have hope that there might be a solution after all. Hope dies last.

gethvi I just downloaded this version, signed up, and everything is working as expected.

DeletedUser69 this is a naive and simplistic view. Just because you don't need the app, ignoring the problem doesn't make it go away. Yeah sure I can find an alternative but what will we do when there are no more alternatives?

Also, even a local government app that allows me to upload my driving license enfores these checks, and doesn't work on gos. Does that still sound useless to you?

ico That is already the case in Denmark. The MitID app that is essential for everything (it is the government authentication solution) refuses to work in GOS. Without it you can't use any government website, read any digital post, use your card online, nor do any banking, you can't even call the bank to speak to them because you need to authenticate via the app in the process.

At least they offer a dongle. In the other hand Sweden has a similar setup and it is only via app. The moment they turn this on you will be a de facto non-citizen unless you use a blessed phone.

There is no "option" to choose. Usage of some apps are de facto mandatory.

I really wish EU will step in and stop this madness. But I suspect that when they decide to act, it will be too late already.

If it helps, their email for feedback is feedback@revolut.com

          I already
wrote an email explaining the whole thing and advising to leave an option for advanced users to use the app with a custom android OS.

          I hope they correct themselves.

Although it might be the case that some internal rule (coming from insurance or whatever) is being enforced. In that case, nothing to be done.

Apologies for a brief off-topic diversion.

AlphaElwedritsch health insurance companies are relying solely on the app

I have not heard of this. What does the health insurance app give to the company that makes them decide it is required?

Notafed I gave them a 1-star rating in Google Play. They apparently care very much about their rating, because they answered very quickly and opened a support case and told me to reach them via help@revolut.com with that case number in the subject.

I then sent them an e-mail, said right in the beginning that there's nothing support can do about it, and asked them to relay the feedback to the developers. Then explained the problem and sent the link to GrapheneOS attestation page, and also said that they give me no choice but to look for a different bank. I also said that this would not be a deal breaker if they provided a functioning website.

I suggest that everybody does that. If enough feedback reaches them, then we might have a very slim chance of them changing course. But I honestly don't have any high hopes (or any at all).

lbschenkel Already did too, hope it's not just posing and it truly does something :)

I have installed revolut app in a poco x3 NFC from my wife, that as an old version of crDroid ROM + GoogleApps. The installed version of Revolut was 10.56 and I have login into the app with no problems.

I've just received an update to the version 10.56.1.

                Does the issue still persist?

Great to hear that others are giving them feedback on this! They also reached out to me after I gave a one-star review on Play Store and wanted me to contact them by emailing help@revolut.com. So if you're a customer and have been locked out of your account because you had to reinstall the app or something, there's a way of contacting them without using the app (I couldn't actually find an email support address on their website).

It's interesting that older versions still work. However, I think a heads-up here is justified: it's not unusual for developers to, after some time, start blocking older app versions from connecting to their servers. Or the older version might stop functioning because they made an update to their identification method or whatever in a newer version, making the older version fail. So I think it's unlikely you'll have access from the older version in the distant future.

krysor I've just received an update to the version 10.56.1.

                  Does the issue still persist?

Yes. I saw the update today and actually hoped, while it was installing, that they had reverted their decision. But no.

So some here can login, but some can't? I don't want to test myself and get locked out.

lbschenkel So some here can login, but some can't? I don't want to test myself and get locked out.

As far as I can see in this thread, the only people who's been able to log in have been using an older version of the app, prior to version 10.56.

Would it be too offtopic to ask for some alternatives to Revolut? Europe based and app working (i.e. allowing to sign in) on GrapheneOS. To exchange between European currencies and pay with single use debit cards for shopping. I'd like a free tier as well.
