  • Experimental GrapheneOS support for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro

Are there any good systems from moving from a Pixel 6 Pro to the 7 Pro as far as moving your content and setup over automatically? Or do you just need to backup and restore things on a case by case basis? Thank you guys for all that you do! Made a donation today and will continue to do so as I can!

Keulz apps that require certified OS (ctsprofilematch) will not work. Gpay tap to pay doesn't work. Android Auto functionality will not work.

Keulz From my understanding of it, it's mostly "Google" apps that you don't get... gmail, google maps, youtube. Things like that. But there are other options that work great and sometimes even better imo. Like New pipe is a great alternative to Youtube. There are a few map options that I would look up that work differently for different people. Plenty of alternate email options. I don't miss donating EVERYTHING about myself to google. Love GrapheneOS!

quicksilver those apps work with Sandboxed Google Play.

Should create a new discussion to continue this topic.

quicksilver gmaps works on graphene and does not require any other google components.

Just to reiterate a question previously asked that I'm also curious about, how does "experimental" fit into the standard alpha/beta/1.0 release structure?

domovoy The first post stated this: "They're experimental because very little testing has been done beyond verifying that the basics work but we're not yet aware of any issues." I suppose experimental is then pre-alpha.

But I installed it this morning on P7 Pro and everything works as expected so far. Great work, team!

Also, I donated a couple months ago and will likely make it a semi-annual event.

GCam has some issues with this release - when you try to switch to the 5x zoom in Video, it freezes. Other than that I have no issues yet.

I am trying SeedVault to do exactly what you are asking for. The install of GOS to my Pixel 7 Pro worked without issue (at least as far as I can detect). SeedVault is notoriously slow at backups / restores, so I will probably be at this for a while, but will update upon completion as to success / success with issues / failure.

Kamaehuakanaloa Apps seem to have transferred over. Since I have never had any luck with SeedVault backing up both Apps and Data (not app data, but files like photos, etc) at the same time (it would always hang and never complete), I am doing this in two passes. First pass was the apps and data, second pass is to get my data. Will update once backup / restore of data files is complete.

I had problems flashing a Pixel 7 using my Graphene OS Pixel 4a and Web Installer in Vanadium

          chronology:

          • Flash release .. multiple unpacking/writing/restarting.. in FastbootMode..
          • to the point where it reboots to "Your device is corrupt.. Press Power to continue..", here is a stop no more progress
          • need to press Power then it boots into fastbootd (GrapheneOS Fastboot) .. flashing continues ... multiple unpacking/writing..
          • until Writing system... where I get an error, web page is not available and the flashing breaks off
          • re-tried several times with same outcome

Flashing worked using a Win10 with Chrome
though same at stage: reboots to "Your device is corrupt.. Press Power to continue..", here is a stop no more progress - need to press Power then it boots into fastbootd

          maybe it helps someone
as this conflicts with the "do not interact with the device" advise.

d4f2 That indicates your web browser on the Pixel 4a was running out of memory. We're aware of the increased memory requirements for flashing 6th and 7th generation Pixels. We also think that the zip library used by fastboot.js regressed and uses much more memory than it did previously. This isn't specific to the experimental Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro support all and will be worked on separately. We could really use help with working on reducing fastboot.js memory usage, which mostly means improving the zip library, or upgrading / downgrading it to a version with lower memory usage.

            Quick update:

BUG: GCam (play store Version) freezes when switching to 5x zoom in the video mode on the Pixel 7 pro

When you disable stabilization in the settings, 5x zoom starts working again in Video mode

IDK why though. Never had issues with the GCam on my p6p with GrapheneOS

@"GrapheneOS" I'm new to GOS after reading alot. Loving it. My one issue on my normal 7 is I cannot take any pics with the included camera app. The button turns dark gray and nothing happens. When i try clicking the gallery button it says please wait for picture to finish taking. When i click the swap cameras from back to front camera a gigantic error message appears. Something about java exception. Is no one else experiencing this? Taking a picture seems pretty basic so I'm worried my hardware is messed. It was taking pics fine on stock android with what i assume gcam is? Thanks and great job so far. Im verry happy i chose to buy a pixel and put on GOS.

Thx for the answers you all.

Does anyone so far have worse battery life on the experimental release than on the stock OS that came with the Pixel 7, obviously it says experimental, so I am not complaining, but my Pixel 7 had great battery life before switching to the OS.
I am just afraid that I got a faulty phone from Google again, happened on my Pixel 6 as well.

                DeMArcus

Sigh, hope google got its act together this time. I’m awaiting delivery of my 7 and hope it doesn’t have this issue again as well.

Had the same issue as d4f2 trying to use the web installer, but on a Pixel 4 XL. Vanadium's tab would keep crashing once inside fastbootd while writing the system. Tried a few times, rebooting in between but kept crashing at the same place.

Ended up using a command line on OpenSUSE and worked fine.

DeMArcus I have a Pixel 7 Pro that I loaded the experimental version of GrapheneOS on yesterday. Although 1 day is way to small a sample to do any type of statistical analysis on, yesterday I finished the day with 72% battery life. With my Pixel Pro 6 and GrapheneOS, I would end the day with anywhere between 65 and 75% battery life. So while 1 day does not indicate a pattern, based on my observation yesterday, I would say battery life is similar.

This is with adaptive brightness, wifi, lte and bluetooth all on. Although I didn't use a stopwatch to keep track, if I had to estimate, I would say that I spent approximately 3 1/2 hours on the phone using bluetooth (air pods pro), 1.5 hours poking around to see how the hardware worked compared to the Pixel 6 Pro, and 1 hour or some browsing the internet. It took me approximately 3.5 hours to backup my Pixel 6 Pro, flash the Pixel Pro 7 with GrapheneOS, and restore the backup to the Pixel Pro 7. SeedVault is notoriously slow. The backup, restore, flashing time should not be included in the battery life time, since I had the Pixel 7 Pro on a charging stand during this process.

Disclaimer: this was my experience, and your mileage may vary.

gosrox Im verry happy i chose to buy a pixel and put on GOS.

Please consider a donation, hopefully recurring and however small or big, to support the project.
