  • Experimental GrapheneOS support for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro

DeMArcus Battery life should be better than stock OS but we are aware of an issue which may potentially cause some limited battery drain.

Whatever it was - 5x zoom Video for gcam works now flawlessly since todays update. Great work.

jumpdeer I have completely switched over to my Pixel 7 Pro as my sole phone. The GOS Dev Team deserve a huge round of applause for getting the "experimental" version out almost a soon as they had the P7's in their hands. I realize I am assuming significant risk using an experimental version of GOS on a PR phone, but feel confident enough to do so. Others may have different experiences, but to date, I am very pleased.

As a note, I do not have GPS installed on my phone, so I can't speak to anything with regards to how well it ported. My personal feelings are if an app requires GPS, then that app does not meet my threat model, and therefore doesn't get installed on my phone.

I've been running GrapheneOS on my Pixel 7 Pro for 2 days now. Haven't ran into any issues related to GrapheneOS yet. Google Play Services installed and all apps work fine.

The only issue I have is Android 13 related. I can't use my VPN with Block connections without VPN on while on a mobile network. It works fine on WiFi. It is a known upstream issue.

Installed same day as release, P7P. Three apps that are malfunctioning after system installation (all worked fine on stock): Best Buy (can't login, crashes); Nest (can login, can't get to main screen as it loads and freezes, nor can you make a yes/no selection on the 'use this phone location for home/away' if it appears, as it freezes in both instances; and Papa John's (can't login, also can't select a store, both throw errors but no crash). These were not issues with a P6P running Graphene.

The first time I went to enter my 'safety & emergency' details in settings, the settings app crashed, but a second try then proceeded as normal. The automatic brightness tends to go way darker than it should in my environment (overhead lighting), requiring it to be raised manually; I don't think this differs from stock, just a note.

One thing I noticed - probably it has an impact on battery life too - is the Battery Manager settings resetting themselves to default when restarting the phone. Did you guys observe that too?

MrMToad I only have two apps that I have given "unrestricted" to: my email client and my messaging client. Everything else is running at default. Due to my threat model, I have my phone to reboot after 4 hours of non use, so I have several reboots a day. Have not encountered the issue you are describing.

Kamaehuakanaloa Thanks for your reply! After reading it I tried to reproduce the issue myself and I can't, which is totally fine by me :-D. But: after rebooting the phone five times I now always get the notification 'com.android.qns keeps stopping'. Any ideas on that?

It seems like my battery life problem hasn't improved over the couple of days, I am wondering if I am the only one with that problem?
After a full charge to 100% the phone estimates my battery life to 8 hours, so I am forced to turn on battery save mode and keep my phone off for most of the day.

Can anyone who is testing GOS on the Pixel 7 or 7 Pro comment on the issues with overheating while using videocalls (on Signal) or the GOS camera?

One of the main things that is giving me pause about getting the 7/7 Pro is the reports that overheating is still an issue and I was wondering if GOS ameliorates the issue...

MonkeyDRed No issues with overheating while using the videocall feature of Signal. I am basing this on a few calls with family members serving around the world. Each call was about 30 minutes, totaling about 2 hours of calls within a 3 hour period.

Updated a couple phones to graphene so far. Tried the new Pixel 7 Pro today and getting "array buffer allocation failed" trying to flash in Win10 Chrome browser as I've done recently with other Pixels. Any ideas? Thanks, Ben

beengraphene Sorry, but have no insight as I am not a Windows user. Do you have access to either a MacOS or Linux laptop? I have flashed 2 Pixel 7 Pros, 1 with MacOS and one with Kali Linux, both with Chrome. No issues on either one.

GrapheneOS That is the only reason I have embraced Graphene OS after so many years reading about it. It is now ready for mass adoption. Well done Graphene Team!
