Bummer! I guess I have to manually move some things over then.
I'm currently using GrapheneOS with the owner profile for most things, without any Google Services. I have a separate profile for apps that depend on Google Services. I'm now thinking that it might make more sense to use a secondary profile as my default profile, so I can keep the owner profile for admin stuff and e-sign management.
Is it possible to convert my current owner profile to a secondary profile and create a new owner profile? I couldn't find anything in the docs nor on the forums. Thanks for any guidance!
This is a step in the right direction: https://github.com/MinBZK/woo-besluit-broncode-digid-app. Source code is published now, though it's a snapshot and not meant to accept contributions.
Relevant source code is here, which indeed relies on GMS: https://github.com/MinBZK/woo-besluit-broncode-digid-app/blob/master/Source/DigiD.Droid/Views/QRCodeDetectionView.cs
I've been playing a bit with the banks I mentioned above. So far I've tried Revolut and Openbank and I'm happy to report that Openbank works on GoS without Google Play Services, including NFC payments. The app gives 'this app requires Google Play Services' popups on some screens, but everything works.
It does behave a little odd, where it initially rejects the transaction until I unlock the phone, even though in system settings I've disabled that the device needs to be unlocked for NFC to work. But maybe this is just a requirement of the Openbank app, I'm not sure.
@finitefutility just double checking; scanning the Digid QR codes with the app now works for you? I'm on 6.5.4 and it's still not working for me, no matter which desktop browser I use. I'm running without (sandboxed) Google Play Services though.
GOS camera app uses the ZXing open source library for QR scanning. Generally it's pretty easy to swap out QR code libraries.
In the meantime I've contacted DigiD and the first response was "We don't support GrapheneOS, only Android is supported.". Let's see if I can make it through to their 2nd line support.
I've reported the issue. Hopefully they can replace it with another solution. There are good open source QR code scanners available.
Even better: if they could open source the app like many other government software we could fix it ourselves 🙂
I noticed this as well. The app uses Google Mobile Vision to scan QR codes, which probably depends on Google Play Services. Shame!
I'm curious if any of the global banks like N26, Revolut or Openbank have working NFC payments on GrapheneOS. Is anyone using any of these banks?
Hi. I just yesterday paired my Galaxy Fit 2 watch successfully. Different watch, but maybe this can help you too.
I manually had to install Samsung Accessory Service to get the setup process to complete successfully.
I also had to install an old version of Samsung Health to be able to login. After that I was able to update the app. Logging in is apparently broken in non-Samsung devices. See https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/other-smartphones/can-t-sign-in-to-s-health-on-my-new-phone/td-p/1786166
