Dumdum No, Matrix isn't directly involved in the bridge. The bridge can work without it.

Tbh SimpleX is even worse regarding moderation. All these very private messengers are just bad for moderating big rooms.
As these rooms are public, treat them as public. It sucks that you need to split tunnel Discord, I experienced the same and even after adding a real phone number I couldnt join a chat, just because of a VPN.
But in the end, use SimpleX or XMPP where you are in control, but these are not suited for public rooms.
Tbh I would also only use Matrix for public rooms, it isnt really privacy friendly either.

Source?
ErnestThornhill Its in the concept. Anyone can just create a new ID and spam again. You have no identifiers, thats the point.
Not sure about invite links, accepting them etc. That is probably fine
missing-root Okay...
Never used the client Element with Matrix before and this is all new to me. I dont know what im doing wrong. I get to "GrapheneOS Community" room but at the bottom where you type I see this message: "You are not authorized to write in this room". What have I done wrong and what can I do to fix it so im able to type in the room.
GOS_Addict Please change your forum avatar to something else, as people might confuse your avatar as your account being an official one.
GOS_Addict Which homeserver are you using on Matrix?
matrix.org
GOS_Addict Hmm, that's weird. Are you able to join individual rooms? If you are, it's functionally the same, although you should be able to join the space too.
Yes. I can join individual rooms. Very weird issue. I would love to use it to its fullest.
GOS_Addict you should change your avatar mate to something less official, I am sure mods would agree
I had that avatar because I love GOS project and wanted to support them. Was not intended to act as mods or admins. But I think they removed it before I could. Any switched to something else.
I accidentally turned on "Cross Signing" feature in Element. Do I need it because im not completely sure on what it actually does? And I cant find anything that you can turn it off. Is it possible to turn it off and how?
missing-root We have no plan to make SimpleX into an official platform. Our moderators were given control of the room so we could deal with it instead of simply ignoring it but we can't handle it to the same extent as Discord.
Discord works via a VPN, just likely not for the initial registration. Discord bans are temporary IP bans so someone using the same VPN may have been banned from that community already.
Matrix has massive moderation issues due to being federated along with many bugs in the protocol leading to state resets. It's also very slow and that makes moderation very hard, as does the decentralized state resolution ending up inconsistent across servers. It's more painful than normal federation where a room is hosted on a specific server. The GrapheneOS rooms aren't hosted the grapheneos.org Matrix server but rather decentralized between servers, so they still work when our server is down but it causes lots of issues due to protocol flaws/compromises along with serious bugs.
GOS_Addict It sounds like you're using a very old version of Element without Spaces support.
GOS_Addict You need that for multi-session to work properly. Your cross-verified sessions sync keys to each other due to being verified by each other. A verified session verifying another makes it verified for the ones already trusting that session.

I installed Element from Google Play Store and there is no newer version to download. What are you talking about? What am I missing?
GOS_Addict I installed Element from Google Play Store
You would not be able to view the '"GrapheneOS Community" room' timeline from Element Android app ...
GOS_Addict ... I get to "GrapheneOS Community" room but at the bottom where you type I see this message: "You are not authorized to write in this room".
... That means you would only see that type of notice after joining the #releases:grapheneos.org
matrix room, since it's our release announcement room. The notice you'd be seeing in the composer is 'You do not have permission to post to this room'. Not:
"You are not authorized to write in this room".
Perhaps getting familiar with the application may help resolve any future misunderstandings, here is their official user guide: https://element.io/user-guide
