Hello,

I am had/having this issue with 3 different phones and 2 different VPN providers (wireguard), with always ON VPN after X amount of time... let's say a couple days of the VPN ON without switch off/on the connection died and I have no routing or dns resolution, disable/enable the VPN fixes the issue but this is happening with my old Pixel 3a, Pixel 5 and now Pixel 7.

Any idea what is going on?

gonzalo would changing one VPN protocol off of wireguard eliminate (or point at) wireguard protocol itself?

I experienced the same issue with Mullvad over WireGuard offical Android client and Mullvad could not nothing about it. As soon as as I switched to their client I never experienced these issues (over same WireGuard protocol) again. Not sure if this is what you're using, but I share your annoyance.

gonzalo VPN's (usually) have different connection types (i.e., UDP, TCP, Wireguard), and you said yours use Wireguard. To rule out Wireguard as being the problem, change your VPN's to UDP or TCP as a test. If the problem disappears then Wireguard would be the suspected cause and, conversely, if the problem remains then Wireguard is cleared.

[deleted] I experienced the same with stock wireguard connection and over mullvad app

mucr Got it, I will try to switch to tcp, but that is weird for a vpn, anyway sounds like a weird behavior

gonzalo I have experienced the same using not any VPN but the RethinkDNS free app. After some days of use, sometimes all connections got blocked. I'd have to simply switch the on/off button on Rethink DNS and everything would start working. Why... don't know!

I came here because I'm experiencing the same issue (currently using RethinkDNS). The random nature of this happening makes it difficult to work around.

User2288 okay so apparently seems to be a DNS issue? I will try to ping an ip when this happen and narrow the issue to dns only, if any have more info would be nice.

            Just an update;

Right after installing GOS, I installed RethinkDNS and had it running. After that point, I encountered many connection issues (e.g. slow speeds, connection interruptions, failed GOS updates and downloads even though the system was given full access via the firewall and DNS filter).

Yesterday, I disabled and uninstalled RethinkDNS and all of these problems disappeared. While I don't have any explicit proof, I believe that Rethink's using the VPN service while not actually being a VPN service (at least not yet) is causing issues. See [https://grapheneos.org/faq#ad-blocking-apps](https://) YMMV.

wxboss I don't think this is the case, using the stock vpn client it happens all the time

I must add, i also installed rethink dns on an android box which has no gos and has android 7 and google play stuff as well and on that box the same thing was also happening.

I dont think its rethink dns per se however, because this is happening with other vpn and firewall apps too, as other people have reported.

I think the issue may not be a graphene issue, but an android issue.

The problem with the "Apps" app also giving errors on update is a separate issue and seems to occur on different vpn/firewall apps as people with different apps have reported the same.

Honestly, I feel much better having GOS installed on my phone and running smoothly vs. trying to figure out how to get this app working properly. This particular app isn't that important to me especially if it causes conflicts making my phone unreliable. But I do appreciate the suggestion.

                19 days later

pappee Yes I do, mullvad ones also tried with my owns and with both and without, the issue still there, sometimes it's okay to disable/enable the vpn but on some situations I don't get notifications for several minutes because of it...

In my case, when I can't connect to the Internet using a VPN, I see Couldn't connect in the Private DNS settings.
Turning Private DNS off and on solves this problem.
                  How about in your case?
