undwersq The best would be to get a Pixel 8a. Because Pixel 8 series will come with a new important security feature.
For now, I would suggest you get a Pixel 6a and trade it in for Pixel 8a in the future.

I guess you are talking about "Advanced Memory Protection" feature? Pixel 8 will be released this year. 8a will be released around August, 2024. I don't think 8a will have this feature but 8 will. If that's the case, I will just wait, pay more (like double) and get 8. I'd like a phone for the long-haul and prefer not to trade in if possible. Thanks.
undwersq so what do you do until then? What are you on now if I may ask?
undwersq I think that all Pixel 8 series phones will have this feature.
undwersq are you out of your mind? Go get 6a real quick
undwersq Both lol
It entirely depends on price and your urgency.
Given that 7a will be coming out shortly, I advice you to wait a month until it comes out. Once out you'll know the exact price and specs/performance. Also it will cause the price of the 6a and the 7 to drop as well. Then you will have a better comparison point.
IMO the 7a might be worth an extra 100-120 USD, but probably no more. Ultimately its "you" that has to decide whats worth what to you.
Price IMO is that big deciding factor.
undwersq If your phone is still receiving security updates, I would suggest waiting for the new Pixel
undwersq Enable lockdown mode if you can and it will be fine.
6a is a spectacular phone. No doubt the 7a will similarity deliver.
guitaroctavebee is it getting privacy updates too? I know from experience smaller communities care more. With the fruit you're just a minion worth exploiting, nothing else (course they won't say that in your face). Low class minions, middle class minions, minions at the top, still minions. It's amazing to see how value of life deprecates with increasing population over time.
[deleted] iPhones can be better than Pixels with GrapheneOS. I tried it on my iPad and you can maintain high security and high privacy with high convenience. The price for that is that you have to trust Apple.
[deleted] I have to admit that I am one of those people who have to rely on second hand information when it comes to Apple and iOS. And yes, iOS can be more convenient and perhaps in certain aspects more secure than google free GOS (which is up for a debate). If I had to choose whether I want to be in a Google or Apple data pool, I'd choose none. But in real life I choose the lesser of two weevils and go with as much as possible degoogled Android. And GOS gives me just that.
iPhone 14 costs 3 times more than Pixel 6a. Apple usually provides iOS upgrades for up to 6 years (same as Android).
