5G didn't work on my Pixel 6a, so I contacted my carrier, and they told me that my phone currently doesn't support it and I have to wait for a software update that will fix this.

Are there currently any upcoming upstream updates that would fix this issue for me?

csis01 I don't think so. Pixel phones get a lot of criticism because of their situation with 5G support.

Where is this criticism? My 6a is flawless on 5g.

Their reply was a typical answer to get you off the phone as fast as possible.

[deleted] I have a Pixel 6a, on Verizon Wireless in the United States. It displays 5G from time to time and appears to work when it is displaying that. I suspect if people here are able to help then more details will be necessary -- for example:

        1. Who is your carrier?
        2. Does VoLTE already work for you?

You might also try asking your carrier for some technical details on what they think the problem is.

It's a fact that the Pixel 6a supports 5G. The information you got from your carrier is wrong.

The world has much more countries than those listed here, right?

csis01 Why are you posting if you aren't interested in considering the responses you get?

I'm only considering responses that are right and answer my question, which is: Are there currently any upcoming upstream updates that would fix this issue for me?

It's a fact that if it works in the US or any other "main" country, that doesn't mean that it works everywhere. Pixel phones are the only ones that I encountered that don't just support 5G everywhere I go. A lot of other people are pissed too.

The problem is that they don't support a lot of countries and carriers, and that should be fixed in upcoming updates. That's why I'm asking if there are any upcoming updates that would fix that.

I think we will be able to help you better if you provide us with more detail.

I found a random post about "5g not working". That post is about how to override incorrect carrier settings. That post may or may not be about your situation, but if it is then we do not know a schedule for Google releasing a carrier settings fix for your carrier.

People here may (or may not) be able to help you with the problem you are having if you provide requested information. For example, which carrier are you using? Does VoLTE already work for you?

Of course, you are not required to answer questions!

de0u OP probably faces the same issue that many others and I face too. Pretty much every carrier in my country supports 5g. Everyone in my family has the same carrier, only person not getting 5g is me (pixel 6a) . I read it has something to do with Google blocking 5g in countries where they don't sell pixels officially, idk. But if I'm being honest i don't mind cause I have wifi everywhere i go and 4g is still good enough. 5g would be better tho, don't get me wrong.

Doesn't seems like google has said much about this so not sure if anyone can really answer OP's question.

spiral Thanks for the reading material! In return I will contribute a link to GrapheneOS issue 956.

So it seems as if there are two plausible paths:

                  1. Google could release a carrier config update supporting 5g for some carriers they currently aren't, in which case GrapheneOS would likely quickly ship it, or
                  2. A GrapheneOS developer could implement one or more toggles to override some carrier configuration features.

The timing of the first scenario would be up to Google, so I don't think people here can provide a date. The timing of the second scenario is also probably not predictable by people here. So I think the answer to the OP's question may be "no".

Interested parties might wish to subscribe to the GitHub issue for advance notice if that feature is implemented. But I suspect commenting there will not greatly influence how fast that item might move.

That would be very beneficial to the users that bought these phones and can't even use 5G or VoLTE and it would bring more users to GrapheneOS that can't use these things on stock OS.
