Not sure if this was already mentioned; are you guys using Play Store to download the app, or something like Aurora Store? If Aurora, trying using Play Store itself.

Same problems. Google Pixel 6a, Graphene build TQ2a.230405.003.E1.2023041100, Navy Fed app version 6.22.0, using owner profile (only profile), tested all security changes talked about, installed app using both Aurora and Play Store with no difference.

If at all possible, I would recommend reaching out to the app developers. There's no reason (that I can see right now), why this app would not be working for you, barring a bug in their app, or them choosing to no longer allow non-Google certified OSes.

So it seems like it is for sure a Navy Fed issue. Reviews on app store are SWAMPED with negative reviews stating the same things we are seeing.

The number of reports of this on the app's Google Play Store page keeps increasing. But, I thought I'd note that even though the new version of the app refuses to work on my GrapheneOS Pixel 6, it works fine on my wife's stock Android Pixel 6. With my wife's, it first asks if it can send notifications to her phone. With mine, it doesn't do that. Of course, that could simply be that she hasn't used it in so long that it's asking her again. Especially since I checked the app's Notification area on my GrapheneOS phone and they're turned on there.

The Navy Fed app no longer opens for me as well. It's stuck on a blue splash screen with white globe.

It seems this may be a common experience as @dregrinfuces, @PringleBread, and @spiral report it as well.

I've posted a negative review in the app store.

    Environment:

    • Pixel 7 Pro
    • Latest GoS (Production)
    • Latest Navy Fed version
    • Secondary Profile

    Same experience.

    Pixel 7
    Latest GOS build
    Latest Navy Federal App
    Primary profile

Symptom: White Globe and blue background. Will not load at all.

Can confirm it does open/run on a TCL 10L unlocked version with stock OS.

ls it safe to assume this has to do with GOS not being a certified OS possibly?

GhostLead ls it safe to assume this has to do with GOS not being a certified OS possibly?

It is likely this, as we've tried hardening-related troubleshooting steps.

To confirm, it would be great if someone reached out to their support team.

FWIW, I contacted them through online banking -> messages when I noticed this broke (4/20) and got the standard non-response:

Subject: Latest Android update prevents app from opening

      Your Message 04/20/2023 :
App version 6.22.0, Pixel 7, Android 13, kernel version 5.10.176-android13-4-g2ce43f87a1d5. GrapheneOS version TQ2A.230405.003.E1.2023041100.

The latest update to the navy federal android app hangs it at the globe screen, and progresses no further. (attached image)

This started yesterday after the app updated in the background. Before I was completely unable to use the app, it was having issues, saying there were technical difficulties of some kind. But they resolved and I was able to transfer money with it. I did not get the error message. I do not know if this happened before or after the update.

      I have:

      • rebooted
      • uninstalled and reinstalled the app
      • cleared data from app

I am willing to provide system or app logs that could be helpful if you tell me where to look.

      Navy Federal Response 04/20/2023 :
We appreciate your feedback on our Mobile App. A digital support ticket was created and the information you provided was forwarded to our Technical Support staff for further review. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

I'm reaching out again to ask if this is an issue w/ GOS not being a certified OS, will update here if I get a real response.

This version is still working for me (in a secondary profile).

      version 6.21.0
      com.navyfederal.android
      versionCode 22575
      targetSdk 33
      minSdk 21
      Installed Jan 11, 2023; 6:43 PM

I've blacklisted updates in Aurora. You may still be able to download this version with the code 22575.

Got a response, they do not know what is causing the issue. Will post any updates, but I think @Graphite's solution is probably best for now.

Subject: Possible reason for mobile access issues

      Your Message 05/08/2023:
As of the latest Android app update (April 13 -- version 6.22.0), the app fails to load on my phone. I have a theory that this is because I am running GrapheneOS, a secure operating system that is not certified by Google. Several others have reported the same issue with the same operating system. Are you able to confirm whether this is intentional behavior, or a bug?

Some banking apps do intentionally prevent themselves from running on nonstandard operating systems, so I wanted to check if that is what is happening.

      Thank you for your time.

      Navy Federal Response 05/09/2023 :
Thank you for using Navy Federal's eMessaging Service, Ms. XXXX. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience and frustration this incident may have caused. Upon review of your account, we show that a ticket was submitted for investigation into this issue for you, ticket # 51300. They are still investigating the issue, so we are unable to speculate on what the issue actually is. If you have further questions, please let us know.

Any updates on this? I'm trying to get it to work as well and I am having the same issues

        a month later

Just chiming in to say I've been having the same issue for months.

Navy Federal App downloaded via the Aurora store

          Fodder

Nope, NFCU hasn't updated the app since I originally posted this two months ago.
