Hi,

I've been using graphene os for a while now without issues but suddenly, my WhatsApp, Signal, and Marktplaats (a Dutch marketplace) no longer give me a push notification with or without do not disturb turned on.

On do not disturb, I enabled these app notifications to override the dnd setting. Could anyone please help?

Edit: I installed these apps from Google store and I have all 3 dependencies installed for GPlay services.

Hulk thanks! I'm pretty sure I have made an exception when the first time I installed Google play but I need to double check. Could you please lmk how to do this? The link you provided didnt have an instruction unless I overlook it.

unwat thanks! I double checked and indeed it was already unrestricted. Do I maybe need to do the same in the Google play store setting?

Google Play Store doesn't need unrestricted battery.

Based on what you said in your OP, it's strange that notifications would work then suddenly stop working. Are you still getting other push notifications? Like email? Not all notifications are pushed. Others can be sent locally via the app.

Do you use a VPN, or do you have some sort of DNS filter or local firewall-like app running on your VPN slot, like Netguard? Do you not get push notifications on different networks (i.e. push notifications don't work on both 4/5G and Wi-Fi)?

unwat it seems it's working again. Apparently the gsf needs updating via the graphene apps. I thought it's automatically updated. If so, I have this suspicion that my Proton VPN may interfere with auto update. I always have to check play store update manually as well as long as I'm on vpn.

My vpn also needed updating via play store despite neo store (fdroid client) says it's up to date.

TLDR; Proton VPN and GSF needed manual updates via PlayStore and Graphene Apps respectively and the problem seems to resolve itself.

aquila-enu this tells me that you originally downloaded ProtonVPN through FDroid and then updated via Play Store, no wonder it doesn't give you notifications. Stick either with one or the other. I would also look at changelog when update comes out, sometimes it's just new translations or stuff you don't really need. When the update is important, then it's the time to act.

[deleted], is this even possible? I mean initially to install an app via F-Droid then update via PlayStore. The app will have different signatures based on the store.

Oggyo How would you explain the following?

"My vpn also needed updating via play store despite neo store (fdroid client) says it's up to date."

Two different stores saying there is an update for the same app (update/same version).

[deleted] only play store indicated that my vpn needs updating even though the app version is exactly the same. Neo store didn't indicate updating, hence why I said, "despite neo store says it's up to date".

I can't remember from which store i installed the app, but both stores always recognize your installed apps - both listed it under your installed apps - if they're available on both stores.

I do remember that for bitwarden, I got it from play store and when neo said it needed updating, it failed to update from neo. Not sure if that would apply the other way around.

aquila-enu some moments ago I have gone through the same experience. I uninstalled ProtonVPN. Went on FDroid and installed it from there. Then i checked Aurora which has newer version and trying to update it I got signature error. My bad, I will remember it. So do you really log into your Google account on Play Store? Otherwise I can't explain why you would hope to get auto updates.

[deleted] yeah I have a dummy account to log in there. Didn't know you can use PlayStore without an account? I have to use an account because I have a paid app that I use and I always encountered errors when using Aurora in the past + since Graphene is "tight" enough as it is, I went with PS instead.

Looks like most of the questions were answered.
                      Here is my humble contribution.

F-Droid/Neo can claim up to date, usually, some apps get delayed on F-Droid compared to PlayStore.

aquila-enu I can't remember from which store i installed the app, but both stores always recognize your installed apps - both listed it under your installed apps - if they're available on both stores.

You can see this from the app info. E.g. - long press on an app, App info, scroll down to the "Store" section - App Details.
And all apps can see the list of other apps, that's why you got offered to update. Both stores see the app listed and it's version.

aquila-enu I do remember that for bitwarden, I got it from play store and when neo said it needed updating, it failed to update from neo. Not sure if that would apply the other way around.

Yes, it will apply because the apps were signed with different keys. And this applies also between profiles, too.
