DeletedUser405 To this day, they have not fixed that Github issue.
Which github issue?
DeletedUser405 I'd be really hard for Matrix to implement forward secrecy but that's a big security feature that messengers like Signal and SimpleX have.
Oh wow. I actually didn't know that Element disables perfect forward secrecy. I thought it was only Session that did that. That is a relevant security weakness.
Though, it is for my use-cases a way smaller security issue than the fact that neither Signal nor SimpleX supports deleting already sent messages or whole chat conversations. I never heard of anyone getting into trouble due to lack of perfect forward secrecy, but chat history on the other hand can contain much sensitive and revealing information that can cause all sorts of issues if ending up in the wrong hands, including deanonymization and harassment. Two activists in our community were arrested by police a few weeks ago. We don't know yet if it is a false arrest (harassment by police) or if they did bad things unrelated to the activism they were doing, but I am very glad we could delete all chat history with them, both for their own safety, and that of the rest of us. With Signal and SimpleX that would have been impossible.
Doesn't look like Element is interested in implementing perfect forward secrecy at all, since they claim it breaks key backups. Doesn't look like Signal nor SimpleX are interesting in implementing support for deleting chat messages either, over what seems like ideological reasons.
I'll stick with Element, and would still not recommend anything else to my fellow activists.
