Anyone else experiencing slow tab switches recently? Is it a Brave thing or something regarding Graphene?
Brave Browser
I have the same problem with Vanadium. Sometimes I even have to switch twice before I see the new tab, because the first time the tab isn't displayed properly.
thure Could be a system related thing then. Just switched to the Discussion forum tab, had to reload the page cause it was blank. That's new.
That's what I meant, it either is blanc or it still shows the old tab.
A bit off topic: List of Brave browser CONTROVERSIES.
argante I don't know. Everyone tells you different things about apps. Don,t want to switch only to have someone showing me kind of the same link as you 😅.
Whenever possible: Vanadium. If not:
- linux: Trivalent - a hardened chromium for desktop Linux inspired by Vanadium. Plus: secureblue.
- Cromite - a Bromite fork with ad blocking and privacy enhancements.
- tor browser in the most secure mode
argante to sum it up:
- Trivalent is only officially supported for Fedora SecureBlue. How many users is that exactly?
- Cromite has shit security and is recommended against.
- Tor browser is not designed for everyday use and has a bunch of other (based on Gecko) problems.
argante I read in a post here that the Graphene team recommends Brave over Vanadium if I remember correctly. Why would that be?

BaronAfanas It's Vanadium for security, then Brave for a bit better AdBlock. On GrapheneOS.
As far as I know that hasn't changed.

As for AdBlocking experience, mine is better on Brave than on Vanadium. Since the V8 JIT engine can be disabled now on Brave I might transition again.. some day
n3t_admin You missed the most important thing:
Whenever possible: Vanadium.
So if you like to criticize so much, please present your own proposal.
btw:
Trivalent is only officially supported for Fedora SecureBlue. How many users is that exactly?
True, but unsupported installation is also possible.
I'm not a fan of Tor Browser. That is why I indicated that only in the most secure mode.

I have that issue with Brave on different android versions. Also noted that from time to time with Vanadium. From the following bug report this could be upstream.
On the choice of browsers on desktop or regular android, hard to know which is best between Firefox with addons, Brave, or less used browsers.
On my Linux laptop I use firefox + AdBlock + noscript for trusted sites and brave for regular browsing. Both as flatpaks with reduced permissions and using wayland.
BaronAfanas I know about it. You have to ask the GOS developers how they feel about it.

argante I prefer the adblocking of Brave and that it gets rid of most cookie popups. Sometimes, when a page won't load properly, I switch to Vanadium.
I'm happy with both.
argante please present your own proposal.
My proposal is Brave. And especially on desktop.
I don't care about their "list of controversies". When you recommend browsers that have such a niche use case - and therefor a low user base - to even reach such a list of controversies themselves, don't be surprised to get some slack for it. Meanwhile none of my comments are false. These are known facts, stated multiple times in this forum by members of the project.
"Unsupported installation is also possible". Is there a list of what will break/not work on other distros? Do any features of Trivalent depend on SecureBlue patches? Nobody knows. And thus - you're only getting an alpha channel experience going that route.
My one and only recommendation: if you're on GrapheneOS use Vanadium and Brave, if you're on anything else, use Brave.
I posted this on another thread a while back ( https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/20417-firefox-done/28 ), seems relevant here:

From the official GOS account on Mastodon:
The only other browser [besides Vanadium] we can currently recommend is Brave. It preserves most of the security of mobile Chromium while adding more state partitioning, anti-fingerprinting and the most advanced content filtering engine. Vanadium is more secure but needs to catch up in those areas.

There are lots of reasons that some folks might dislike Brave.
Private company, runs an ad network, crypto, AI.
But there's no perfect browser out there. Brave is one of the least bad choices, per the GOS account:
If you rule out Brave then there's no mobile browser alternative to Chrome or Edge we can recommend due to lack of basic security.

Also, about Firefox and variants:
Firefox doesn't have a basic content sandbox on Android, let alone site isolation, and it has a lot of other security deficiencies.
The browsers referring to themselves as hardened Firefox variants only harden privacy, not security, and in fact most bring more security issues.
This applies to the Tor Browser too.
n3t_admin I am going to switch to Brave.. I may like firefox better but some sites simply dont work with it. Life goes on.. What can I do
