I'd say it could still be worth it. Cause through doing that while apple can still obtain some data you could at least prevent them from obtaining ALL of your data. As that's all you can really do when it comes to privacy. There is no golden standard of privacy and no golden way to achieve such a thing. But there are certainly ways to improve it and I'd say trying to partially migrate some of your daily life to a device running GrapheneOS would be a really good start!

please don't move all devices at once. Try doing one, use it for a while, if it fits your expectations.
It took me maybe 3-4 months until my setup settled, so I could do the things I need. I started with no prior knowledge. Not using google contacts - huh? how?. It needs time to think about, try stuff, maybe try another way..

The amount of data my phone specifically collects and scatters around in my biggest concern. I'm not overly concerned about security. I'm just trying to control as much of my own data going to apple, google, exc... if that makes sense.

csb146 Then switching to GrapheneOS makes sense. The main issue with iOS or the stock pixel os is Apple/Google getting telemetry data and what apps you have installed etc.

Best would be if both people who moved from iOS to GOS and vice versa chimed in to tell their reasoning and experiences. I can only talk from theory because I'm never going to use iOS. I simply don't trust Apple with my data, and they do collect it plentiful.

He has more videos on Apple. Make sure to also consult other sources to make an informed decision for yourself. In the end it's up to you and your specific situation, none of us here can actually know what's best for you.

and while we're here: don't store anything in iCloud. I have developed strong suspicions recently that they delete stuff only on the front end while it's still stored on their servers.

DeletedUser87 that's not just a suspicion. A recent bug exposed that iPhone photos have not really been deleted even for a decade and more. Apple claims it was only local and not on iCloud, but I have a hard time believing it without proper evidence... Another reason not to trust their closed source code and privacy marketing promises...

DeletedUser87 iCloud is very fluid and is end-to-end encrypted, you won't have better whether it's with Apple or Android

I dont know why you would have multiple iOS devices? You mean generally Apple? Like macOS, iPadOS, WatchOS (Or how its called)

N1b I mean, photos is one thing. For me it was passwords. I deleted all my passwords manually from iCloud a good 3 months ago. Recently picked up my old iPhone, decided to play around and activated iCloud on it. To my surprise it started pinging (DNS queries) domains to get favicons. The same 130 or so domains that I had saved passwords for. MacBook and iPhone both showing that there are 0 passwords. Activated iCloud keychain on Mac, same pinging started. Picked up my old iPhone 6S with old iOS on it. No passwords saved, no pinging (it doesn't have the dedicated passwords app from iOS 18). Saved a random password on that 6S and what do you know? All my deleted passwords reappeared on all devices in "recently deleted". Deleted them again and no more pinging as of yet... if this is a bug, I have a saying: one man's bug is another man's backdoor.

N1b I trust them precisely because privacy is their marketing and I pay dearly for it. Source code closed or open is just a licensing story, and it is not proven that one or the other is more secure or respectful of privacy. As Apple security researchers say, Google or Microsoft have world-class security teams and you won't find anything better for your security, except of course grapheneos whose security no longer needs to be proven

Just wanted to give you a quick update on the iCloud Passwords situation. The problem has returned again. Passwords is sending out the same queries for the same domains. It seems like deleting passwords from iCloud Keychain is borderline impossible now. The first time I had deleted them on my iPhone, this last time I had done it on my Mac, so it seems to not make a difference.

DeletedUser26 nope, iCloud sync is enabled. Last time I deleted them, then turned off sync after a day or two. This time I left it on. Initially the described behavior stopped, now it suddenly reappeared.

DeletedUser26 are you still actively using iCloud Passwords/Keychain? In that case you would never notice. Someone who keeps using the feature doesn't delete all their passwords and someone who has stopped using it, will stop looking at it anyway. Except me I guess.

DeletedUser87 I delete passwords all the time when I delete accounts. It’s never been an issue. I imagine it’s something to do with turning off the syncing. You’re definitely not the only one that’s had this issue I saw a blog post about it before, they were also trying to turn off the syncing and updated and then it synced their old passwords. Seems like some kind of weird iCloud bug.
