  • Google device registration for Play Protect certification for custom ROMs

I installed GrapheneOS on Pixel 7 and the sandboxed play services. As I noticed in Play store, the Play Protect certification has the status "Device is not certified".

I thougt I can get the certification state by registration at Google. So afterwards I registered my device, technically the Google Play Service Framework ID (GSF), on www.google.com/android/uncertified website.
Found out the Framework ID (GSF) with this App: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/evozi/device-id/
After this I forced the stop of Play Store, cleared the cache and storage of app "Google Play Store".

I would have expected the Play Store to be in a certified state now, unfortunately it is not. Should the certification registration work with GrapheneOS? Or is the Framework ID (GSF) maybe an another one because of the sandbox layer?

The certification doesn't work, I believe registering your device with google simply allows you to bypass the restriction on the installation of some apps that require a play protect certification.

I am mainly interested in the Play Protect certification because there are apps in the Play Store that require this certification for their installation. As long as the Play Store remains uncertified with GrapheneOS, I probably have no choice but to use the stock OS. I find this a pity because I find the basic approach of GrapheneOS exemplary and would love to use GrapheneOS!

can you provide some names that require that?

So far, I could only notice this with the Netflix app.

I am aware that I can manually download the apk somewhere. However, I would have to do this regularly for updates.
And if Netflix already does this, I can imagine that there might be other apps that require this in the future.

I have installed Netflix with Aurora store on GrapheneOS and it seems to be running fine.

Like I said already, registering your device allows you to install those restricted apps through the play store, even if it doesn't say you're certified.

defendero I am also running Netflix from Aurora. No Google on this profile at all. Works fine here.

AtriumCompound Aurora store is play store. Its a different client for the same thing that doesn't respect those idiotic restrictions.

I know, aurora store is a good choice in many cases. It seemed like OP was specifically focused on play store though.

Is it even possible to bypass the restrictions on installing apps in the Play Store by registering one's GSF ID with Google?
