One of the few remaining things keeping me on stock is Google Pay. The major reason I use it is because I've heard it's more secure than paying in-person with a credit card. My credit cards are all NFC-enabled and support tap-to-pay. Is it just the authorization requirement (like biometric unlock) that makes it safer or is there anything else?
For most cards, I'm still going to walk around with my ordinary wallet since there are still many places that don't accept Google Pay. So, (unless I'm misinformed) it's still possible for someone to get up close to me and process a payment using one of my cards in my pocket without me realizing? I'd have to forgo carrying around physical cards entirely to actually get this security benefit of Google Pay?
Are there other security pros/cons of Google Pay compared to paying with a normal NFC-enabled card?
The other reason I would use Google Pay is convenience. For examlpe, losing my cards could be an issue while travelling where I can't immediately have a new one sent to me. Some of my cards also have pretty expensive replacement fees for lost/stolen cards, which I can avoid by leaving it at home and using Google Pay instead.
Do the same privacy and security pros/cons apply to Apple Pay?
