  • "Open by default" setting (opening links in their respective apps)

I have the Slide app for Reddit, and Newpipe for YouTube. On my previous phone I could click a Reddit/YouTube link while browsing and have them open in Slide/Newpipe. I'm having trouble getting this working in GOS. I have "Open supported links" enabled in the android settings for each app, and I've added all of the available list of links.

The problem is twofold.
1) The available list of links appears incomplete. On my old phone the link "*reddit.com" was available, but it's not available in GOS. So when I click a reddit.com link it's not recognised. Is there a way to manually add links? Or any other fix for this?
2) It doesn't appear to be working universally. So for example in Vanadium if I click a m.youtube.com link it correctly opens in Newpipe. However when I try in Brave it doesn't work. Any thoughts on how to fix?

I use Realy for Reddit, and the Open by Default lists me a long list of domains under App Details

The way this works is on Android app developers write code that tells the OS that the app can open specific links. If the link isn't there, you can't make the OS add the link.

Since Slide is open source, I checked the code and it does say it can open *.reddit.com links.

This shouldn't be the case, but do you have the official Reddit app installed? If you do, the link will show up for Slide, but it would be greyed out, so I'm assuming you don't have it installed.

Do you have some kind of firewall app running like Netguard? Make sure you're not blocking system apps, in this case "Intent Filter Verification Service".

If *.reddit.com still isn't showing up, you can try restarting your phone. That may trigger the OS to search for links again. Otherwise, uninstall then reinstall the app.

    Hopefully this helps.

unwat Thanks for looking into it, but unfortunately no luck. I don't have the Reddit app installed, the link is completely missing and not greyed out. No firewall apps just Proton VPN but I had that on my old phone too. Slide is same version as old phone. I had a poke around the settings for Internet Filter Verification Service and as far as I can tell there's nothing that would be blocking it. Is there anything else I should check to see if it's blocked? Restart didn't work and nor did uninstall/reinstall. And the fact I'm having issues with Newpipe too, maybe there's a bigger issue?

To be honest I have no idea why you're experiencing this problem. The links I found in the Slide manifest included reddit, so Android should list them.

I don't use Brave so I don't know if the other issue is expected behavior or not.

unwat No worries, appreciate the time you've taken to try and assist. Hopefully someone else might chime in.
