assuming this is in reference to usage in GOS (can't comment on others), I use Mastodon https://f-droid.org/packages/org.joinmastodon.android/.
other than the features listed on their site, the mainstream scientists, disinformation experts, independent journalists etc, that I follow are on Mastodon.

If its just to read posts you can use Nitter. You can browse through Vanadium but it can be slow sometimes. (nitter.net)
F-Droid has major issues and vulnerabilities. You may want to install apps from other sources like Github (Obtainium), Play Store/Aurora Store, ...

you can also use twitter PWA in vanadium instead of downloading app, but it isnt best privacy oriented alternative, but still lot better than their app
