  • does anyone have headphone or microphones that work with grapheneos?

I used a Pioneer SE-MS9BN headset with a Pixel 3a running GrapheneOS in 2020 and am now using the same headset with a Pixel 6a running GrapheneOS, never with trouble.

Maybe there is some setting which is awry?

I've had a few conversations using my Sony WH-1000XM4 with a bluetooth connection.

I just plugged in wired samsung headphones. They do not work. They are somehow recognized in the settings but nothing plays on it.

Have you tried cleaning out the port? I once had a similar issue and the port was full of pocket fluff preventing the cable from sitting correctly. Sennheiser, Sony and JBL bluetooth headphones I have tried has worked correctly.

deofol port is clean. Since neither bluetooth nor cable work. There must be something different going on.
I wonder if a reinstall would solve it...
It's probably best to sell the device and buy another one.

It might not get a good price if it were advertised as audio not working completely. So a factory reset seems like it might be a good first step (even though wiping all of your data would probably be painful). If that doesn't do it, you could try Google's OS.

But first, does the problem exist in a secondary user profile?

de0u yes same behavior for another user.
Looks like a pixel 6 isn't worth much anymore anyway.

I was looking through the forum what the current state of a backup is and it's bad. And without having a new phine for doing it side by side it's a lot of work to backup and move to the same phone without knowing if it'll work. If it doens't it was a lot of wasted time. Might be easier with a new phone.

I'm also using a Pixel 6. If I was in the same position and could not get anything working, I would factory reset before replacing the phone. If that's not working, I would probably try a restore to the default Google rom and see if things work there. If it does, try again with a fresh GOS install or sell the phone..

Rumor has it that it recently got better. I haven't had time to try it yet. But having some backup may be better than having none.

Standard Google USB-C earphones work very well for me.

evalda thx. I replace the phone in the upcoming days.

@mbos Not sure if you mean wireless or wired?

I use wired headphones exclusively so I looked around on eBay and found adaptors that not only allow 3.5mm jack plug use but can simultaneously charge the phone with a USB C port too.

Just make sure that the type of adaptor you get works with Pixel phones. Some don't and I found this out after buying some that don't work. I have two types - a single USB C plug with two wires off of that - one to the 3.5mm jack and the other to a USB C plug. The other type is a tee piece configuration where one end is the 3.5mm jack plug and the other end is the USB C port.

Used many kinds of headsets. The analog ones with 4 or 5 pins worked well. 5 different Bluetooth ones worked too. 3 different USB connected ones worked as well. Sometimes apps take a bunch of time to recognize that a {usb, bluetooth} headset is connected. For example Signal often takes a restart or calling twice to recognize a {usb, bluetooth} headset. Analog ones should be instant for everything.

did you plug them in before or after you unlocked your phone and is in your user

some of graphenes usb settings block stuff if they are plugged in when phone is locked in AFU. so i always plug in headphones after my user is logged in because i have my phone in that setting

              just something worth checking

I never had any problems with headsets or bluetooth boxes and everything worked as expected with my 6a. I use JBL TUNE 720 and Jabra Evolve2 65 as Bluetooth headphones and the latter as a headset. And even switching between phone and laptop works well with Jabra and the headset always selects the relevant one for calls, etc.

              Edit: spelling

Bluetooth headphones? All of them, cable too of course. Sennheiser, JBL, Anker

              Microphones are maybe harder

My headphone will randomly cut off sound at any given time, and have tried a couple pairs, I have a Pixel 6.

              Hi guys,

depending on the app, permission for ‘Nearby devices’ or ‘Sensors’ is required for Bluetooth devices!
If you have not given an app this authorisation, maybe it will not pair the Bluetooth device at all or perhaps sometimes and then hold the connection for an unreliably long time.

              Examples:
Session Messenger: may use permission: Sensors (not ‘Nearby devices’).
Signal Messenger: asks for permission: Sensors (not ‘Nearby devices’).
SimpleX Messenger: may use permission: Sensors (not ‘Nearby devices’).
Threema Messenger: requires permission: ‘Nearby devices’ (not ‘Sensors’).

But: Session + SimpleX also work without this authorisation if the Bluetooth connection to the Pixel Phone has already been established before the call.
Signal asks not because of Bluetooth functionality but for screen orientation.

Authorisation for sensors is helpful/required for these (and similar apps) in order to establish the Bluetooth connection afterwards.
Scenario: You start the voice chat (accidentally?) without the BT headset switched on, then want to use it and it is not found during the call.

That's my experience, hope it helps also for you! ;-)

I use an adapter from Teufel (German brand), and can use any headphones with that without issues. Also, the 4th version of Sony's ANC in ears worked fine.
