I have been wanting to try GrapheneOS on my phone but have not been able to find how it will interact with smart watches and Google Pay functionality.

I am trying to balance convenience and privacy. While I do not want Google to track whether I am walking, driving, or sitting, I do want to use Google Pay and do want to use a smartwatch with my phone.

Does anyone know how these two things might behave with GrapheneOS installed on my Pixel phone?

    Smartwatches

Smartwatches should work fine, we have users with Garmin watches who also use Garmin Pay on the watch.
WearOS should work fine with sandboxed play services present and nearby device permissions granted appropriately.
We also have users using Samsung Galaxy Watch but these could take a little more tinkering to get working.

    Google Pay/Wallet

Unfortunately on this front you will be out of luck for using GrapheneOS with this for NFC payments. GrapheneOS doesn't pass full SafetyNet or strict Play Integrity API checks. We can only pass BasicIntegrity for both as Google have not whitelisted our OS. (Hence the yellow alternate OS warning on boot).
Other options are available so long as they use the OS NFC Payment service, some French banks are known to and then you have some Curve users in areas that don't have Google Pay that can use Curve Pay. (It might be possible to use in GPay areas but the version of the app from the Huawei App Gallery would be necessary along with HMS (Huawei Mobile Services) Core app.

MetropleX is there any realistic chance we will be whitelisted one day? Is there some box we can tick or just subject to the whims and inclinations of the overlords?

parampara Just so you know the Samsung watch work's very well. Haven't had any problems since migrating from a 3A. That's just for everything but Samsung pay. I use it in conjunction with my Polar chest strap. I use Strava to import workouts with the sporty watch face. Sporty watch face connects to the polar chest strap. So you can get real good heart rate reading's while performing extreme workouts. So yes, GOS will work with a variety of setups all connected through a Samsung Watch. All the apps work fine. Samsung Gear/Samsung Health/Polar app and the others mentioned.

I use a Withings hybrid Scanwatch. Integrating great with GrapheneOS. Much better than it did formerly with LineageOS.

        MetropleX When you say:

Do you mean that tinkering was needed to get Payments on the Watch working, or the Watch in general?
Do you have any information on how to get Google Wallet working on a Samsung Watch 4

nobody knows ? Maybe it has been answered in another thread ?

[deleted] Unlikely. Even if GrapheneOS were to release their own phones in partnership with an OEM, that still wouldn't meet Google's requirements.

in broad terms, what are these requirements?

[deleted] GrapheneOS would need to meet device integrity with the Play Integrity API. From what I recall, the device would have to be sold with Google Play Services installed on it, which GrapheneOS would never do. The fact that GrapheneOS changes the way permissions work compared to AOSP would be another sticking point.
