Hi,

Pixel 6 Pro
UP1A.231005.007.2023101300

The launcher acts really slow sometimes. Switching between apps takes the system about 15 sec to react. Killing the launcher app seems to help, temporarily. It occurs since the last 3 updates, if I remember correctly, after patching.

Any idea why this happens?

I had this issue on my secondary user profile a while ago. I fixed it by completely deleting and reinstalling the second profile. Unfortunately, it affects both the primary and secondary user profile now.

How can I help to further investigate the issue? Please tell me.

Regards

I demonstrated the issue in the following video:

https://vimeo.com/879132001

The system takes a lot of time to switch between apps after pressing the tap overview. The delay does also affect the screen lock mechanism: rendering the home screen after unlocking takes a lot of time, as well.

The issue may be related to the process of switching between user profiles since it mostly appears after switching the user. It runs very slow until I kill the launcher app manually. Installing other launchers does not solve the issue. So it might be related to something lower level, maybe the app isolation or something.

As already mentioned, I had this bug a few times in the past after updating GOS. I hope it gets fixed soon so I don't have to reset all my profiles to make it working again.

SquirrelMaster There are others who've reported similar issues, but so far I don't believe anyone has been able to pinpoint what causes these issues, nor have they submitted crash reports or logcat logs.

Other than switching profiles, is there anything you can do to make your phone start doing this (I mean after killing the launcher, do you know how to trigger this slowness other than switching users)?

Is there something about your setup that might be different from most users? Like have you changed anything with ADB or installed apps that manage notifications or non-default launchers, or any of that?

      Hi,

thank you for taking the time!

My setup is pretty normal, no custom cli tweaks or something. I use the default launcher all the time. I am pretty confident that the lag is introduced when switching between profiles. But I will keep an eye on it if there are other causes. I will also try to log it next time. Maybe I can find something.

      Regards

I have the same problem, it happens on the second profile, and if I clear the launcher data, it is solved, but sometimes this problem occurs again within 2-3 days, sometimes within 1-2 weeks, I couldn't find what caused it...

I hope its not too messy with all the network stuff. Logcat Reader, non-root.
The log was made on my primary user profile after switching from the secondary which was affected first. The record contains a button press of the tap overview, waiting for the action and then tap back into the app.

      Hope that helps!

SquirrelMaster I didn't see anything helpful in the logs, though maybe someone else might see something I missed.

I have used that app before, but I recall having issues getting all the logs. The app has all the permissions it needs?

I have the exact same issue. I noticed it hapends only when the apps overview or navigation buttons are involved. When an app tranasitions to another one (ex. sharing) the switch goes fast and normal.

I'm having this issue on two Pixel 6a handsets. Agree with OP, that it's been in a recent update. Mine predominantly affects the primary user profile. I don't have a clear cause to trigger, but I can temporarily fix with a reboot or by entering lockdown mode.

To be clear, Mt issue is with swipe navigation enable, swiping up to switch apps makes the haptic unit buzz (signifying the gesture was received), but the app switcher interface takes a matter of seconds to appear. Similar occurs if using 3 button navigation, where tapping the right most button gives a 2-3 second (minimum) delay.

        Any progress yet?

I am pretty sure now that the issue occurs on my 2nd profile first. When I kill the launcher process it is temporarily fixed - until I switch back to my 1st profile. Then the first one is going slow. Killing the process on the first profile as well fixes the issue for a while.

Could it be related to the screen (finger print )unlock or something?

        Hi all,
just wanted to drop a quick note that the issue has not reoccured since a few weeks ago. Looks like the last updates could fix the problem.

Kudos to our devs, good work! :)

Unfortunately the issue kind of reappears with build 2024092900 and one or two versions before that.
Sometimes the tab view button doesn't react and some apps like Fairmail refuse to open / have very large delay to open (probably until a subprocess is killed and restarted).

Stopping and restarting the Launcher app solves the issue temporarily. I fear that its again tied to switching profiles (which I do quite often) that somehow messes up with the launcher.

I think it's due to profile switching. I use also the three buttons navigation, but no profiles, and having no issues
