The Pixel 8 series has been confirmed to have the hardware for USB-C DisplayPort alt mode, though it's disabled in software. Rooted phones seem to be able to enable it, however. I'm not here to ask for root support, but rather to see if we can add the DisplayPort enablement to GrapheneOS.

I understand that this is a less popular feature, and also that official GrapheneOS images aren't finished yet. I'd be thrilled to just know that it's on the roadmap, even if it's at the very bottom. Is this something the project is willing to take on?

+1 to this feature request. Would be great to have a toggle for this in settings.

GrapheneOS is interested. That said, there might be a reason why Google hasn't enabled it yet.

That reason might be because they want to enable it when they have improved/finished their desktop mode, or it might be that it is buggy and can cause serious issues, so they're keeping it disabled until those are addressed.

For GrapheneOS to enable it early, rigorous testing would need to be done to ensure that it is safe to deploy at this time.

It sounds amazing that soon we will be able to use our pixel with GrapheneOS also as a desktop device. Everybody wins, thank you very much to this wonderful community for making all this possible.

Great news! How do I get the phone to mirror onto my PC screen?

I've used the USB-C cable that was supplied with my P8 and plugged it from the phone into the USB-C port on the back of my Nvidia GPU.

Is there something I need to do on the phone to get it to mirror?
Do I need to plug directly into my monitor (Samsung TV) instead of the GPU?

Thanks

Lizard Yes, you need to plug it directly into the monitor.
The gpu usb-c port is likely just an output, not an input.

I was really hoping that they fixed issue with connecting my usb port to displayport... it has being a month now

Up till now I've used the Scrcpy software for screen mirroring, am I better off sticking with this or buying a cable?

My Samsung TV uses HDMI for inputs - do I need to get a USB-C > HDMI cable for this to work, and is there anything specific I should ensure when buying a cable to make sure it'll work?

    Thanks

Thanks for replying, so sounds like I'd be better off (and more secure) using a USB-C > HDMI cable then to use the built in display port functionality.
Has anybody had experience with using one of these cables with success for screen mirroring on the P8? If so would you care to share what cable you used because I know it can be hit & miss if you buy the wrong one.

Carlos-Anso Using usb debugging opens up a big security hole and should be avoided

        ???

This Scrcpy web page says Scrcpy requires USB debugging. If that is accurate then Scrcpy is what should potentially be avoided on security grounds.

Yes, that's what I meant. Buy a new cable that connect from the phone directly to my TV's HDMI input to use the P8's display port functionality that I think I read somewhere is now enabled in GOS?

Lizard Yes, that's what I meant.

Sorry! I misread what you wrote. I think trying the cable route is worthwhile. Some users have reported imperfections in the current DP implementation, but it seems plausible that there will be improvements over time.

I hope so! It's an important feature for me to be able to mirror the phone without opening security holes etc. I'll buy a cable and see how it goes. Thanks
