Chooky Just out of pure curiosity, if someone were under duress either from law enforcement or anyone else, and gave them a pin that destroyed all the data on the phone, wouldn't that open them up to physical or legal retaliation? Or would this work such that they wouldn't notice it deleting the data?

I am honestly amazed this question has been brought up so recently. While upgrading my home security system, I had the same thought about my phone. My house has a silent alarm feature and other measures for duress, why not have the same for my digital house. My linux workstations have the same feature triggered by which user logged in and start-up scripts. It would be interesting to have the same feature on my phone yet I understand how difficult testing would be since this action is irrevocable. If I had access to a virtual version (with snapshots) of my phone I actually would not mind building, compiling and testing out a feature like this.

[deleted] one would have to weigh the consequences if being charged with obstruction is less then the consequences of viewing data on phone . this is not legal advise
I like the idea of a two pin login one for yourself and one for everyone else from the same screen .

Skyway From a legal standpoint I completely agree. There would definitely be some pro's and con's. For a personal benefit, as I mentioned above it could have some very niche use cases.

It could be set up so that when you use a Tidy Owner profile, the duress pin burns the keys to any other profile. That means you can still have a working phone to show your adversary even after using a duress pin to destruct the sensitive content.
