Alright, I am gonna do this for completion in case anyone else is having the same problem and finds this thread.
Without USB debugging enabled for any of them.

Usb tethering = Error: Failed to execute 'selectConfiguration' on 'USBDevice': An operation that changes interface state is in progress.

Uhh actually I tried that again and now it's unlocked!

I got the factory images, now as I went to flash them I got this error again:
Error: Failed to execute 'claimInterface' on 'USBDevice': Unable to claim interface.
On the phone I am on the fastbootd menu. I have the following options:
Reboot system now
Enter recovery mode
Reboot to bootloader
Power off
Which one of these should I press? I also have the option to press "Lock bootloader" on the website? Is there anything I can do here that won't fuck things up?

xgrg You still have something interfering with WebUSB on your PC.

Make sure you stop all other processes on your PC, I suggest restarting it.

On your phone, select reboot to bootloader, and then then flash release again.

-Usb debugging is turned off
-I restarted my computer
-after restarting I opened brave and nothing else with just one tab open with the installer
-I rebooted to the bootloader on the phone, it's still unlocked
-I pressed the "flash release" button
-I still get the "Error: Failed to execute 'claimInterface' on 'USBDevice': Unable to claim interface."
I checked my settings on brave and ubuntu earlier and couldn't find anything, but let me check more thoroughly once again.

adb wasn't installed before, I installed it now and ran the command and this was the output I got.
"cannot connect to daemon at tcp:something: Connection refused"

I'm having same issue, have tried all above.
I'm running Ubuntu 20.4...
Have tried Chromium and Brave
Oddly I did succeed early in the year with Pixel6, now wanted to do the same with another Pixel 6.
Both phones give me this error when I try to "Unlock bootloader".
Have tried 4 cables on both usb3 and usbC ports on Nitro Acer laptop..

Did you plug the cable into the phone, only after the device was in the bootloader interface?
