GrapheneOS trigan69 You need to roll back the update by having it fail to boot multiple times. You can't install a new update while one is pending.
trigan69 Mmmh strange… i probably rebooted it at least 50 times and no change. Somebody advised me to use the web installer to recover and assured me my data will NOT be deleted. When I read through the installation docs it says phone will be wiped. Can somebody please shed some light on this please.
android-privacy GrapheneOS this doesn't work for this situation unfortunately. I can't reject a wipe anywhere. It just keeps rebooting until the end of time. I already rebooted 50 times or something (same as @trigan69 ). I filmed the process so it's easy for you to see what's going on: https://drive.proton.me/urls/ZABV58TR44#qQIXq3Ai0Vco Would it be possible to repair without losing data? Maybe the a software upgrade through rescue mode (just guessing)? Reflashing through web installer will remove all data :(
android-privacy treequell Yes I do see the Google Logo and GrapheneOS logo, after that it turns off (or reboots). I made a video: https://drive.proton.me/urls/ZABV58TR44#qQIXq3Ai0Vco Any clue about what I can try?
treequell android-privacy You'll be able to boot into the OS again if you factory reset, but you'll lose your user data. You can try sideloading the latest release from recovery mode following the instructions in https://grapheneos.org/usage#updates-sideloading. That will preserve all your user data. If you need any help with that please visit the GrapheneOS chatroom on Matrix: https://matrix.to/#/#grapheneos:grapheneos.org.
android-privacy treequell Trying to sideload gives me the following: https://ibb.co/vxzh3BJ Already tried the chatroom, but some idiot is spamming the room with complaints. Hopefully you know what to do, Thanks!
android-privacy treequell Yes I am, all seems to go fine until it's like 50%, then it gives the kInstallDeviceOpenError Tried through both a Mac and a Windows, both the same error :( I filmed the process on Windows, so you can see for yourself: https://drive.proton.me/urls/W302YKEJ0M#xprrj8ltmZVC
Victus I have the same issue, but I can successfully reboot after update without sim card. However, if I insert sim card again and try to manually restart device, error will appear again. Maybe it help as temporary decision.
android-privacy Victus dude you are my hero! Without a SIM tray it boots normally. I could install the update and now the error is gone. There wasn't even a SIM in the tray, just the tray itself. @GrapheneOS god to know for other cases like this!
kevo solution without loss of data for me; was to sideload the newest ota. It aborted with 'error in /sideload/package.zip (status 1)', but afterwards the system was booting again. Wonderful. https://grapheneos.org/usage#updates-sideloading
GrapheneOS kevo You don't have this issue. It only impacted an Alpha and Beta release from June. The symptom you have is caused by a hardware/firmware issue also impacting the stock OS. Your attempt at sideloading didn't fix anything. You resolved it by rebooting.
