“your device is corrupted and cannot be trusted“ - can't start

Device is getting the “your device is corrupted and cannot be trusted“ error when trying to boot. After pressing power on it seems to boot (yellow triangle warning), but then it just turns off again.

Is there a way to solve this without re-flashing the OS?

You can then install the new update working around this problem introduced in the latest GKI LTS update which caused around 1/300 people on 6th/7th gen Pixels to receive this error after updating.

In the future, please give more details including your device model, what happened leading up to the situation (installing an update) and whether you're using the Alpha or Beta channel which appears to be the case since the relevant update was not released via the Stable channel.

How far do you get when you try to boot the phone? Do you get to the Google logo or the GrapheneOS logo? Or does it just turn off immediately after the yellow triangle warning?

GrapheneOS this doesn't work for this situation unfortunately. I can't reject a wipe anywhere. It just keeps rebooting until the end of time. I already rebooted 50 times or something (same as @trigan69 ).

Would it be possible to repair without losing data? Maybe the a software upgrade through rescue mode (just guessing)? Reflashing through web installer will remove all data :(

Hi there,

I have the exact same problem as described above. Google pixel 6 pro. Latest stable version.
Message red phone is compromised
Then yellow sign boots up.
Google logo appears shortly then reboot
Boot loop.
Where would the option be to reject wipe?

I can only select boot yes no
Then i can select pause boot - resume boot

It happened during the latest update. It rebooted then the screen displaying the simcard appeared waiting for me to insert my pin.
I was too slow and phone rebooted. Then the error started.

Likely 400. Updating to 402 should take care of this. 400 never made it to the stable channel.

I have tried to sideload my pixel 6pro zip file raven-ota_update-2023061402.zip however I get error message: error applying update : 7 (errorcode kInstallDevi eOpenerror )

trigan69 You need to roll back the update by having it fail to boot multiple times. You can't install a new update while one is pending.

Mmmh strange… i probably rebooted it at least 50 times and no change. Somebody advised me to use the web installer to recover and assured me my data will NOT be deleted.
When I read through the installation docs it says phone will be wiped. Can somebody please shed some light on this please.

android-privacy You'll be able to boot into the OS again if you factory reset, but you'll lose your user data.

You can try sideloading the latest release from recovery mode following the instructions in https://grapheneos.org/usage#updates-sideloading. That will preserve all your user data.

I have the same issue, but I can successfully reboot after update without sim card. However, if I insert sim card again and try to manually restart device, error will appear again. Maybe it help as temporary decision.

Victus dude you are my hero! Without a SIM tray it boots normally. I could install the update and now the error is gone. There wasn't even a SIM in the tray, just the tray itself.

solution without loss of data for me; was to sideload the newest ota. It aborted with 'error in /sideload/package.zip (status 1)', but afterwards the system was booting again. Wonderful. https://grapheneos.org/usage#updates-sideloading

kevo You don't have this issue. It only impacted an Alpha and Beta release from June. The symptom you have is caused by a hardware/firmware issue also impacting the stock OS. Your attempt at sideloading didn't fix anything. You resolved it by rebooting.
