When cropping an image the image gets blurry until i finish cropping.
Another problem is that if you open an image from the Files app or anything similar, options to share and edit are not shown..

vvf69107 The stock AOSP Gallery app is poorly maintained and indeed image editing is blurry, less than ideal.

GrapheneOS is considering developing their own Gallery app, but we likely won't be seeing that in the near future.

Consider installing a third party Gallery app with image editing functionality, if required. Those will not be blurry.

I am using since I started using smartphones Simple Gallery Pro. You'll find it in F-Droid (for free) or Play Store (paid).

The blur when cropping is gone meanwhile btw. but the images are shown twice when editing.

I've tried lots of different gallery apps now and they all aren't really able to work with storage scopes.
they won't start editing an image when opened from files app because they're lacking access to it.

i addition the edit option was removed from the share menu in android 14 and if you open an image in the stock gallery, the only option you get is to print the image..

vvf69107 I've never had any issues using the storage scopes feature. I never try opening images from the files app, though. I guess the way the files app handles it is by assuming the app opening the file has access to it.

It might be helpful to read through the storage access and storage scopes sections of the website.

I think the issue here is that you're using the stock gallery from AOSP. You might find that using a different gallery app will provide a much better experience.

The app Aves is one that many community members recommend.

Aves indeed works better, but it doesn't support editing on it's own. Instead you can edit from the dropdown-menu with another app.
If you edit with the normal Gallery you won't be able to share the image without exporting first, hence you have to use apps like Fossify Gallery.

I want a single app for a normal gallery view, editing images without storage scope permissions (yes that's possible) and editing directly after a screenshot.

I've found apps for every use case, but needing 3-4 gallery apps is kinda annoying and won't help get into a good workflow.

In addition the "edit" option sadly got removed from the share menu in android 14..
